i love tutorials @___@ This is by far the easiest way for me to learn about digital painting, when artists break it down and i can tell how they layered colors and stuff.

Thanks! I've been waiting for you to make one, i love your digital painting!

Also, is this a custom texture?
:B
Maybe I'm just blind and missing it on photoshop?

fayrenpickpocket In reply to Nanree [2007-05-22 00:09:19 +0000 UTC]

Oh! No, I think i googled a free texture site on the web and found it. <3 I've had it saved to my computer for a while now so I don't remember exactly where I got it.

Nanree In reply to fayrenpickpocket [2007-05-22 23:46:50 +0000 UTC]

Ooooh, okay.
xD
I looked through the textures a few times to make sure, but cha, couldn't find it.
Time to go and hunt the texture <3
Shouldn't be too hard to find it.

cgtextures.com and mayang.com are good places to go for textures

Thanks <3
I'm so bad at finding things.
D:
I always wind up downloading some bad looking textures or brushes.

Limetastic [2007-05-21 15:19:15 +0000 UTC]

So instead of using the smudge tool you alt a lot to eyedrop colors and just paint over with lighter and darker opacities to smudge them together?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fayrenpickpocket In reply to Limetastic [2007-05-22 00:06:17 +0000 UTC]

Yes! That's exactly what I do. I find the smudge tool to be too unpredictable for me, and it kinda chugs on my computer sometimes. I like having more control. <3

Limetastic In reply to fayrenpickpocket [2007-05-22 17:16:59 +0000 UTC]

Awesome. :3 Yeah the smudge tool is too weird for me. And if I'm on a big file it'll crash my PS. D:

That's really cool. It's always a treat to see how others use the same tools to such different results. How good is your graphics tablet? I find it really hard to achieve the same level of accuracy as pen and paper with one.

fayrenpickpocket In reply to ninja-artist [2007-05-22 00:05:20 +0000 UTC]

I have an intuos 3, and I'm in love with it. <3 *hugs it*

Hehehe, I draw much better on my tablet than I do with pencil, I think. But only because I'm out of practice with a pencil. It took me a long while to get used to the tablet and be able to draw comfortably in it, but now it's more natural to me than paper.

ninja-artist In reply to fayrenpickpocket [2007-05-27 11:44:15 +0000 UTC]

I guess I need practice, paper's still more comfortable for me, but it's killing my workflow.

:3 I didn't follow your method exactly, cause I didn't wanna copy you, ya know? XD So I just kinda... messed around with it. :3 And I used a different brush as well. D: Anyway... it looked good in the beggining, but then I got lazy... and tired... 'cause I didn't mean for that to be a pic anyway. D: I was just bored and photoshop was open. XD

Thanks again for uploading this tutorial. :3

if you don't mind, I'm kinda wondering what other artists are your big influence/inspiration?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fayrenpickpocket In reply to TehEccoGod [2007-05-21 23:58:45 +0000 UTC]

Oooh, hmm. That's a tough question to answer. I love Yi Lee, of tatoomcity.net. Art on games like Disgaea and Odin Sphere are also a huge inspiration. Here on DA, I currently get a lot of inspiration from *arnistotle and *kidchan . <3 And that might show. hehe.

Wow people I haven't seen! Awesome. I always loved your style, I wouldn't guess it's from animeish influence. But now i see it and it makes sense.
I know it's a tough question, I'm not at all sure how I would answer, haha. Thanks for thinking though

SUPER helpful! Thanks so much for the tips, especially those concerning what colors you pick. So many people just say in their tutorials, "Then I put shadows here" without actually explaining what they picked and why.

Wonderful work, as always.
