Description A reference sheet of another siderian-like species, the javine. They are closely related to siderians and are the only species of the metafelidae genus (a genus within the felidae family) that can produce fertile offspring with siderians.
See here the siderian reference sheet:

Javines; as I call them 'javs' are mostly inspired by Oriental cats and have the same slender and graceful look. They live in more open landscapes and southern regions and usually don't live in areas where siderians live. However there are some places where the populations overlap. There, they live either in conflict, or in harmony with siderians, but both species strongly try to prevent interbreeding. Being a bastard means that you will have a hard, very hard life.

I don't have so many siderian characters yet, but they will come soon I guess. I now only have Jeffrin ,
And Mudstar has Tathra (the little lady here)

You are free to make up your own javine character with the help of this reference sheet; but just make sure you always refer to me as 'creator' and NEVER use a javine character for commercial purposes!

If you have any questions about possible variations or for example coat colours (those are complex and there are more exceptions possible than shown here)- feel free to ask me! I will try to answer

-btw...there may be a LOT of typos...

art and species to me!, please don't copy/use it without my permission!

Absolutely stunning work, I had been looking forward to your Javine reference, and it has turned out amazingly!
The details and anatomy are pure perfection as always, and your landscapes are stunning and so versatile since you captured a very different scene to your usual habitats and it looks equally gorgeous!
I love Javines I think equally to your Siderians - both different but I can't say which I like more - I love on this sheet the elegant faces of the Javines and the contrast of their smaller feet, particularly the females look so sleek, refined and elegant and yet still powerful and sturdy. ^^
Love the blotched and striped patterns particularly... and as for body types, they're all beautiful, but I think the traditional cat-biased Javs are my favourites!

Ha thanks! yeah it's difficult to choose which one I prefer. I tend to love the tiger-influence in siderians; those large narrow shoulder blades and the strong but yet very narrow appearance of sidearies and tigers. But as you say; the fine and elegant details of javines make it very hard to pick a favourite. Maybe I shouldn't XD
I'm curious how you would like the arctian and canovine - they are not so closely related to siderians as javines are but they still have some similarities. Arctians have a bodybuild that is inspired by homotherium and probably a bit by cheetahs; they are build for (long distance) running - as one of the few felid species. Canovines resemble clouded leopards and are pretty short-legged are arboreal.

You're very welcome!
Yes, both are gorgeous indeed, but for very different reasons - they are contrasting, but the contrast makes them beautiful and creative. <3
And ha, that's a good idea - they can BOTH be your favourites, haha, that will solve it! ^^

Yes, I remember that they were from a different branch of metafelidae from where siderians and javines diverged - I like what I've seen of Arctians so far, and very unusual for a cat to be designed for long-distance running, haha! ^^ Interesting!
And yes, I think I'll like canovines as well because I'm a big fan of neofelis nebulosa (and n. diardi too of course!), so I think I'll like those guys as well! <3

How about giving few Siderians Siamese-coloring? I would like to see that on one of your characters. A white or a creaam colored- character with darker paws, tail and head.Β

I have actually a few characters with those semi-albino factors; Gunda and Mara both have the tonkinese factor; Mara on non-agouti black with a 'cooling' factor and Gunda on black flamed tabby. Morthian (Stian's son) has the siamese factor on blue and has a cooling factor which makes him icy white-grey with icy dark-grey points. Then I also have Viènty (father of Felina) who has the classic siamese colouring.
River has also a few semi-albino characters: Dani is a classic red-point, her mother Galina a classic blue-point (so the siamese factor without that 'cooling' effect). She has also another possibly blue point (he's not sure yet) named Kjeld and his father Keeran is classic Burmese (on black).
Unfortunately many of these characters are not on DA (yet) because their drawings are out-of date and it hasn't been my priority to update them (that's pretty time-consuming).

XDΒ  Always happy to help out.Β  **grins**Β  Sometimes as writers and artists we forget some of the little things because to us, the explanation is known and seems completely logical and obvious to us, while our audience are all like "Wait, what about this?" and we end up going "DOH!"Β  XDΒ  Been there, done that, understand completely.

FelisGlacialis In reply to Leathurkatt-TFTiggy [2015-01-23 10:19:46 +0000 UTC]

yeah indeed - when you are so much 'into' your species and regard something as completely normal, you simply forget that it may look strange for people who meet the species for the first time. So thanks for mentioning it! My original species (that has evolved a LOT over the past 15 years) has had these nose and ear spikes from the beginning, so to me it was indeed already 'part' of them. But I have been thinking much more in detail about the function; these things are called lightals and are metal blade like things that are connected to to brain by special neurons. They are used for sending and receiving brain-waves (a long wave-length variant of the metaphysical energy that flows through the world) and maybe even make small lighting bolts like electric eels can. But for that I need to give a much longer explanation of the entire physics engine of the world - which goes a bit beyond this comment

KalahariMeerkatfan In reply to FelisGlacialis [2015-01-23 12:10:44 +0000 UTC]

What exactly are the Canovines? I recognize the Arctian (they're quite fluffy if I do recall), but that other one sounds unfamiliar.

I beat that boss XD, only to get stuck on another -_-, Oh well. Making progress is better than none at all.

The habitat is quite lovely , but do they have some requirements? Like they prefer places with sparse trees and long grass? Or they don't really care where they live as long as it's warm?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

FelisGlacialis In reply to KalahariMeerkatfan [2015-01-24 10:26:55 +0000 UTC]

I haven't submitted any canovine drawing yet - but they look a lot like a mix between siderians and clouded leopards. They are pretty short-legged and live mainly in trees. And indeed; arctians are very fluffy in winter - like arctic foxes.
Javs are not very picky with their habitat; as their hunting style varies a lot. They are pretty fast and can hunt in open landscapes, but they can also shift to a more ambush-hunting style. Some hunt even in groups. However, unlike siderians, they usually don't live high in the mountains - even though some javines actually do live at high altitudes. As long as they can get food and have space to live - (like no severe competition with siderians) - it's fine for them . But they don't like dense forests and jungles. Their habitat needs to be at least a bit open.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KalahariMeerkatfan In reply to FelisGlacialis [2015-01-24 18:31:51 +0000 UTC]

So...they're basically short-legged Siderians that prefer to live in the trees...do they have the same tolerance to cold or snow? For some reason you made me think of some of the short-legged cat breeds...but how would they result from traits that resulted in tall size and long legs that are seen on the Arctian, Javine, and Siderian? It sounds cool (I like tree dwelling creatures)...but a little confusing.

XD...I kind of thought that one of your Siderians was an Arctian...I forgot his name, but he's big with really thick white fur.

If Javines and Siderians do live in the same area, how does it work out? Does the temperature fit both species' tastes and also the setting would benefit the Javines' need for open areas and...well I guess Siderians like trees. It sounds kind of hard to find locations that would suit both of them.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

FelisGlacialis In reply to KalahariMeerkatfan [2015-02-06 11:20:50 +0000 UTC]

Yep - canovines are more like fossas and clouded leopards. They prefer warm jungles and don't like the cold or snow. It's not so strange actually - and they are not sooo short-legged as Munchkin cats and dachshunds. But as these mutations occur in one species (cats/dogs) it's not so surprising that it can vary between different species. I mean jaguarundi's are very short legged, while a rather close relative, the cheetah,Β  is extremely long legged.
I will submit the arctian ref-sheet soon, and then you will see that they look anatomically very different from siderians .
There are many locations where they both can live- siderians and javines- they are both not so picky on their habitat, it's just that they prefer other habitats, which mainly drives them apart.
