Description
Just playing around with GIMP GAP to see what I could come up with. This avatar [link]was made using the same concept, but all the pixel stretching was done manually. That's why it's only 50X50 pixels....took me forever. Now that I've figured out this technique in GAP, I could probably do this eye animation in under 15 minutes. Very pleased with the outcome, but the image size is a bit large for the web.
I wasn't sure where to put this: Animation or Photomanipulation. I just tucked it in the Animation Category. Hopefully, that won't be a problem.
Stock image was obtained here: [link]
EDIT: BTW: it was late last night when I posted this, but here's the inspiration for the animation: [link] His was done completely in flash, so there was nothing that I gleaned from his work. I just recognized the concept and ran with it.
C & C Welcome!

Emmip if you are using linux then you may already have GAP and just need to go to synaptic like I did and just put it into Gimp. It is probably already in a package in your synaptic. What type of Linux are you running. I may be able to find out for you.

You might have to respond to her directly. I don't know how often she checks in to this site. Or maybe she automatically sees your response? I don't know how DA works in this situation.

This one is currently under review by my "editorial staff" The funny thing is, I broke the tutorial up into 5 pages to cover everything in tremendous detail, yet accomplishing the task once you know how to do it, takes about 10 minutes. CRAZY! Who says that simple stuff can be simply explained?

Thanks! The tutorial in currently under "editorial review!" Hopefully my "evaluation team" will provide some good feedback and I can get it posted soon. So, if you're up to a new challenge, keep a watchful eye open!

Well, that's ok. Animations aren't everyone's cup of tea. Besides, you're very good with what you do anyways! Who needs animations when you can do all those other things, right?!
See ya later!

Well, I used to do a lot of ImageReady, but since I got my new computer, I haven't really played with animation.

Wow, Art! Very nice
I am STILL having trouble in understanding what GAP is, where to get it, how to install, and I never seem to grasp the idea.
I am totally baffeled by this. I have no idea why it seems to be SO hard to obtain and why do i find it so dang frustratingly difficult...
Someone hand me the GAP for extreme dummies -book! LOL

Hi, EmmiP!
If you have Windows, you can download it here: [link] There's a link at the bottom of the page for GIMP Animation Package (aka GAP.....now you know what it is! LOL!) Save it to your desktop and double-click the executable file. It will install by itself. Once complete, open up GIMP and if you have a Video menu on the main image window, it's installed! Then try out some of my tutorials. I try to explain them with lots of detail and geared so that even extreme dummies (your words!) can find their way. Now, if you have Linux, I can't help you with the install as I have no clue. If you have a MAC, you're completely out of luck. There is no GAP for MAC.
Send me any questions if you run into trouble or just need help.

I'm so in Linux that I'm almost a militant-linuxist
Maybe I'll just keep on browsing and wondering
Thanks Art, you're the best

Well, you might have to check in with the linux GAP "experts" at gimptalk.com. Sorry, but it sounds you're SOL with me on this one!

I certainly don't mind! It's not something I came up with; just figured out how to accomplish it. I'll probably write a tutorial on how to do it, so when you get the script done, let me know and I'll link to it within the tutorial. I still want people to know how to do it manually. But, since I still haven't figured out how to write scripts, it will be fun to look at.
