It was because the '-' symbols on the tutorial were difficult to read at first and I wasn't putting them in my flame.

Oh goodness!!!!!!! I know why it wasn't working, here is some feedback:
Is there a way you can edit your Tutorial image so that the NEGATIVE symbols are in red or are made more visible? I had a hard time seeing those so all of my ztranslates and zcones were in positives!!!!!! NO WONDER I had an absolute mess on my screen!!!! OMG I can't wait to render this! It's beautiful! Thanks so much! <3 <3

out of curiosity what was the grain on the final product?

Fiery-Fire In reply to wolfwings1 [2012-03-05 07:01:19 +0000 UTC]
Grain, really depends on the quality of your render, the higher the quality the less grain
My final product, looks OK >> [link]

well I mean what was the number you set for the quality :> Those are just amazing :> And gahhhh I suck at these tutorials :> I can never get these things to work, I always mess something up heh.
here is my first messup on this tutorial :> [link]

I like more height flow, but that can be changed You can play with those numbers yourself
The best is if you figure out things yourself during the tuto
My render is min Quality:4000 with OS at 2

PS :> here is one I fixed and got closer to yours with that had those modifications taht I changed from what /I/ read in the tutorial :> [link]

wolfwings1 In reply to Fiery-Fire [2012-03-07 06:41:52 +0000 UTC]
thanks :> I've been doing 3kX3k by 3000 quality, but since dropped to 1kX1k by 5000 that still gets me done in half a hour.
heh I seemed to have messed up the first step, though one of the settings you gave with - effects by removing the two - effects I was able to bring the hole in the middle up. Either way it's fun :> As my favorite old painter used to say, "Happy little mistakes" I just liked how that one turned out even though it messed up.

Thanks so much for the tutorial. I got a little lost along the way, that ztranslate on T1 was completely skewing things so badly that I removed it! Did a bit of other adjustments and like my end result! You may see it here: [link]

Yes, Im use to the z coordinates and I really like my fractals to show, diff levels
But I'm also happy, you not blindly copying - but doing your own thing

Hello Fiery! Thank you for this great tutorial - I learned some new things today! I also have to say I really liked the friendliness of your style of writing.
I made this fractal using your tutorial as a base: [link] I've never done anything in 3D before so I am sorry in advance if you don't find my result to be very appealing.
Thanks again!

No problem at all Thanks for sharing again.
It helps to learn ways to get the fractals to work/be visible. When working from scratch, my fractals are often blurry or simply not there. I haven't figured out why still.

Fiery-Fire In reply to gdpr-17873423 [2012-03-04 01:58:04 +0000 UTC]
If your fractals are blurry, it means the xfroms with variations might be too big or too small
Scale button is your friend
Welcome

I will give the scale buttons a try next time. I know I've attempted to play with scales in the past, but to no apparent result.
If I have just one xform (xform1) on my screen, should I be able to see it at all or can it only be seen after placing a second xform (xform2)? Is the scale of the Post Transform also an important factor in getting sharp flames? Hope this makes sense

Fiery-Fire In reply to gdpr-17873423 [2012-03-05 01:06:14 +0000 UTC]
Yes, both scales are important and both can impact how your fractals look, I think most of the time
you need min of 2 xforms, to see something on a screen (I think exception is a bubble with some blur on it)
