Sorry my replay was so late. The filler is drywall plaster though you can also use wood filler.

Or the Tsuka-gashira. At least you don't call it 'butt cap' like the americans.

Well, when I say Tsuka-gashira, one doesn't usually actually say the 'Tsuka' part.
As for whether it's gashira or kashira, I suppose really it's where you're from that dictates which way you spell it (referenced from how you SAY it).

it just comes out as kashira, most of my friends(if not all) have no idea what I'm talking about when I say stuff like: kasira, tsuba, habaki, things like that.

I could have called it that, but I wanted people to know what I was referring to. I found the main problem with tech manuals they are written by engineers who refuse to speak in terms that people can understand.

Mine cost usually less than 6 dollars. Many cost nothing. One of the benefits of using recycled wood.
