Maybe six hundred years ago. It's the German name for swords intended to be used with both hands, and it literally translates to "Two Hander."
The Germans weren't very imaginative when it came to naming stuff, but they made up for that with combat prowess.

Oh I don't know they have the term ohrwurm. A bat is a nachtmusse. I don't know much German, but I always thought those words were so cool.

I don't really know where you can buy one. I made this one and I don't do commissions. It really isn't worth it. I just do what interests me.

I should warn you that to make this version [link] Takes a table saw, a scroll saw, a lathe, a belt sander, palm sander, a drill press with a 3/4" forsner bit, and a Dremil tool.

fixinman In reply to Die-neko-angel [2012-02-28 02:30:51 +0000 UTC]
Well it's simple to make if you have the tools. It takes a table saw, a jig saw, a lathe, a belt sander, a dremil, and a drill press. Plus about 12 hours.

Fantastic job!

All my swords are made from couches mostly because
(A) It's free and the wood would cost at least $60 per sword or more and
(B) New wood tends to have uneven moisture content and when you cut it it tends to warp. Couch wood is totally dry and stays straight when I cut it to 4mm that I use.

NovaSnake In reply to fixinman [2011-09-16 22:04:10 +0000 UTC]
(A) Good point.
(B) I just learn something about my couch, thank you.
Anyway, Great job! I'd probably buy from you if I had any money at all.
