Description
This is the finished Claymore. The wood came from a discarded couch.It now has been spray painted with three coats of Valspar Interior Brilliant Silver that I picked up at Micheal's Arts and Crafts. Now I'm not advertising just answering the inevitable question.
Up date Use Testors chrome lacquer it's a better paint.
Update saw a claymore by waynekaa ( ) [link] with all gold handle looked far better.

Much more skillfully made than mine, which was made in my grandpa's woodshop with a couple of random boards and a saw, and currently has a broken crossguard. This one is awesome.

You know, now that I think about it, the sword is so long that it would be impossible for the warriors to sheathe it on their back like they do in the manga. Nobody has arms that are long enough!

that sounds like a good idea. I'm no expert on swords (other than "they're sharp") but i think the handle looks a little too long for a claymore

Well it is all to scale with a picture I used but I miscalculated the base scale. Also there is the frustrating aspect of anime swords is that they keep changing the design. When the Sode No Shiryuki first appeared it changed 4 times in 5 minutes.

I redid the calculations and boy did I screw up. It's 16" too big. Now I have to make another.

I actually just watched all of Claymore yesterday (yes, I have that empty of a life lawl) and happened to see chioky's critique.
I really loved the Anime (though it felt like there should have been another season) and you did a hell of a job.
If I was a sexy chick I'd totally cosplay one of the Claymores (like Helen :3) and pay you a lot of money to make one of these (assuming I had money).

Use 1/8" plywood you can cut it with a razor knife and it's stronger than hardboard.

If you can find a place that sells doors you can get pieces from them. They usually save the wood that was cut when they did an insert.
