The four blue macaws! And all of them are in a troublesome situation.

The well-known hyacinth macaw, which is kept as a pet; the similiar Lear's macaw, the famous Spix's macaw and the lesser-known glaucous macaw.

Spix's macaw has drawn the attention of media mainly because "Rio" the movie and the 2016 sighting - which could've been a captive bird released into the wild. It was declared extinct in the wild in 2019 on IUCN's red list. Captive birds are planned to be released into the wild soon. Will we ever see Spix's macaws in the jungles like 200 years ago?

Glaucous macaw is one interesting case. Similiar to Lear's and hyacinth macaw, yet slightly smaller and with turquoise plumage, it's one of the Anodorhynchus macaws. No captive birds exist in the world and it's debated whether it's critically endangered, or - in the worst case - extinct.
