I've been meaning to make one of these for a while, and I finally remembered to take screenshots along the way as I was doing my last drawing.

I hope this helps some people in learning some of the cool features in PaintTool SAI!

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment!

Enjoy!

This has been very helpful. I had no idea how to do most of these things, including making the lineart softer through gradient coloring and I had no idea how to use the Preserver Opacity, Selection Source or Clipping!
The things I learned in this tutorial are things I'm going to be able to apply to other works and that makes a tutorial a great tutorial.

one thing: do you know how i can make the blush?

i love to know it.

otherwise,it is a really amazing tutorial!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

foogie In reply to OceanPirate [2012-10-07 18:22:32 +0000 UTC]

All I do to make the blush is take a pink color that's darker than the skin and shadows, and above all skin layers I make a new one- and airbrush this color onto the cheeks (very lightly, don't overdo it!), elbows, knees, bum, maybe fingers a bit too.... then adjust the opacity to get the right look. You can also try setting the layer to overlay or something to see if it looks better, but usually just the flat color with adjusted opacity is fine! At the end I'll take the eraser and make little round erased dots on these blush areas as a shine mark.

I hope that helps!

Hello darling! I love the tutorial. And congrats on the DD.

I do have a question. I used to use Sai, however now I have a Mac so I can't use SAI on it. So currently, I use Photoshop, but I want to make my lineart smoother. Is there some sort of option/bar I can fiddle with for my lines to be smoother?

Or otherwise, if there is a Mac version of SAI.

Which would be amazing. <:

foogie In reply to PwnKage [2012-09-26 19:08:57 +0000 UTC]

well I'm really not familiar with what's available (and not available) for macs... but I think your best bet for making smooth lines in photoshop would be using the pen tool. In the version I use (photoshop CS2) there is no function for stabilizing pen strokes, but there might be in newer versions. I'm not too sure but to my knowledge, the pen tool is the only way to get perfectly smooth lines. I also have an older tutorial on using the pen tool here if you're interested: [link] (click download image to see it)
