Description
My first digital dog portrait. Took me several hours but I am actually happy with the results. Painted with KritaFirst version sta.sh/0r8nt3r0bcl
It was pretty hard to me to draw all the single hairs. I tried using a brush but it looked too much alike, so I just drew it one by one. I know that definitely there is some work needed and I would be glad if you helped me with that!

Hey! This little dog looks pretty well done !
I love the detail you have put on all parts, especially in the fur. The ears are also very realistic
Where I think it could be improved is in the shadows. I think it would be better if you add more shadows and make them darker. That would give the figure more contrast and volume. It would help to mark certain parts, such as the legs to separate them from the body, or the head to separate it from the torso.
Good luck and keep going !

You mean golden retrievers? ^^ they are my personal favourite for I have been growing up with 2 I've drawn them both but.. they do not look that good, I should redraw them

Have you tried drawing them again?
My college professors say that the more you draw something the better you get at it.

Well dedicated piece! Hmm, I do hope there is more background to it, but hey still looks good ( I can't draw background either). I think the eyes could be darker and a bit wider , but probably because of different lightning on photo and your piece that caused this to look a bit different. And it's first drawing of dog,so that's impressive

I am always nervous when it comes to background, personally I am afraid to spoil the painting so I just added a nice color Next time I will do better. Thank you very much for your comment!

Well, I can't blame you. I am also nervous. Almost all of my art didn't contain background, so there is that. Maybe a suggestion, try a pastel color as a background or color such as blue, or cream.

This dog portrait is really adorable! You did a wonderful job painting him. I can't believe you did the fur line by line. It lends a great realism to the piece since of course the fur would not be uniform.
I don't think there's much room for improvement. Just a few suggestions. I'm personally not a huge fan of an overly obvious light source shading like half of the subject, but I feel you could use more contrast for the lil' doggy as he is a bit flat right now. The same for the background. You could give it more depth by playing with values, light, and contrast.
I'm wondering how you chose the background color. Theory-wise, I see nothing wrong with your decision. Mostly I'm curious, but also perhaps you could consider more than one color worked into the main background color. That could help it appear less flat as well.
Also his little tufts of chest hair are a bit similar at the moment. I personally think it adds to his cuteness, but it's a trade-off with realism.
His fur is so soft and touchable. His nose and eyes are very lifelike. He's a real cutie, and you should be proud of this work. It's hard to believe this is your first dog portrait!

Thank you! I can assure you, I have enver before drawn a dog digitally - just traditionally and that is something different. I was afraid of the fur but in the end I found it relaxing, I mean, drawing all the lines one by one
I'll take your observations to my heart and next time I'll try using more contrast ^^
With the backgroud.. well, I always just choose a color because I am always too afraid of backgrouds, that they would spoild the painting, but you are right, I shold try more colors! And I will.
And thank you one more time for your kind word! They really made me smile I bet that if the dog could, he would thank you as well and probably licked your hand

Great work! Especially with the fur, it looks amazing!
did you use a different technique for the white fur on his chest and the fur on his head and ears? the white furs looks a lot better than the balck fur.
I haven't gotten used to digital painting but the technique with traditional methods is you shade a block in the direction of the fur, you then lift off some of that shade with an eraser (u lift off strands, the eraser is made into a point and lines are erased, so that resemble individual strands of hair) then u add light strokes beneath the erased area, to give it some depth and then softly blend the area. the process is repeated until u get a satisfactory result( this is what I do anyway)

Thank you! I did not really use different technique.. well, I have not even thought about it. I guess I just wanted to make the white fur more fluffy and the fur on the body usually joins together in these "bunches" (I'm sorry I cannot find the right word ) And I wanted to make the fur on the head different.. maybe I could also try a similar style next time, nice suggestion!
Thank you also for the method, I am always afraid of drawing hair when it comes to it I'll definitely try it also in my traditional works!

Aww, this is so gorgeous! Very fluffy And superb for your first one, too!
I love the tufts of hair on the chest, and it's incredible that you drew each hair! I would never have the patience for that!
I noticed someone else mentioned that it looks like it has no neck, and I'd like to add to that and say that I think it's just because of the lack of shading under the chin. At the moment it looks like the brown fur runs straight into the white fur, which gives the impression that he doesn't have a neck. A bit more shading to define that would fix the problem, I think. The same thing has also happened to the paws/legs. You can't quite tell where they start, and just a bit more shading would help that.
I love the expression, and the eyes are so intense! I think you did a super good job on this one, and I can't wait to see more from you!

I also thought that I would not be patient enough but after some time I found it actually relaxing . You are right, I should shade better the body - especially neck. Maybe I will redraw this in the future.
Thank you I hope I will not dissapoint you!

Haha, surprised yourself then!
Ooh yes, you should do a redraw in 6 months time or something, once you have learnt more about dog portraits, and see how you have improved!
I'm sure you won't

Aww, this is so pretty! I am a sucker for animals, and I love how you capture the eyes. It can be tricky capturing emotion and life in eyes, but you do it well here. So adorable! I also love the details of the fur, how vivid it looks. Again, you portray the texture wonderfully realistic. Even with the little highlight on the nose!
I'm not sure if it is the dog's coloring, or what, but it looks like the neck is short, or like there is hardly any neck. Maybe it's the coloring, maybe it's the shading, or maybe it's the tuft of fur right under the face.
You have improved a lot since the first version. I also like how you use the fur and texture to show this is a puppy, with the extra thick fur. This might be minor, but I also like the small lean of the dog. It feels real to me, since my dog likes to do that sometimes, too. Overall, good piece.
And of course, I came from

Na prvy pokus, dost dobre. Mala rada, pokial ides kreslit portret psa, alebo celkovo zvery co maju chlpy, nemusis ich vykreslovat po jednom (paradoxne ja robim tiez tu chybu), ak by si mala robit celu armadu hafanov tak by si sa zblaznila. Skus sa skor viacej zamerat kde su tiene a svetlo, cize spravit si lineart, velkym stetcom nahodit zakladne farby, dat si velkym stetcom svetlo a tiene. Uf, monolog Drzim palce! Ide ti to skvelo C:
