Adler's Prelude - First TV (color)This is the full color page of my first Adler comic.
Anyone who's seen my concept sheets for the characters should notice the darker skin tone. I like this dark skin tone with their white hair, but I may lighten it up just a bit for the next one.
You should notice a lot more in the way of background.
I think these effects really make the action pop more, and Ash looks a LOT more scary in that last panel.
Hope you all enjoy the full color page. I'd like to hear thoughts so I can improve for the future comics.

I am also a big fan of fred perry's work, if only I had some decent srtistic talent, but alas I'm nowhere near your's or his level. I'm usually terrible at people. I can do weapons decently I guess but nothing like you or Fred. quick question though. Is Ashien's home world similar to or is it Fred Perry's Jade?

Thanks. People seem to say often that I in some way compare to Fred Perry. While I do see him as my artistic idol I would never be so bold as to try and claim to be even his near equal. What he does in speed and quality just blows me away.
To address your question. Ashien's world isn't as lush as Jade is. Much of the giant land is practically a wasteland. As if eons ago some kind of magical hallocoust washed over most of the land. The stone, soil, and minerals just seem to be soaked with magic. While most of the world is run by a corrupt government Ashien was raised almost as a living weapon against that corruption. Though her motives are not that honorable. She has something far more personal in mind.
Perry's Jade Realm often feels more like it has a more lush barbarian feel to it. Ashien's world is closer to a mixture of ancient Japanese, Arabian, East Indian, and a little Roman and Grecian thrown into the mix.
A tip. Ashien hair isn't just pure white, because I thought it would look cool. It actually has something important to do with the story. It's seen as a curse by most. It's something that often skips a couple generations in almost every family. It's never been passed to the next generation. That was until Ashien gave birth to Adler.

Very well drawn, I like the concept of a beautiful but very overprotective mother. When they are watching the anime I can't help but think of "Mistress" Ayane's pet cat Nin-Nin, and using Ayane's old stage name. I know too much info but I am a NERD and proud of it!

You're not a nerd. I flat out hint at the connection with Mistress. I like the Ayane comic Perry has on his art blog.
The premise behind Ashien is a woman who grew and trained most of her life as a warrior, a killer, and a weapon. Think a female version of the Spartans from "300". She never thought she'd be a mother, but due to "certain events" she became a mother. She found she truly enjoyed it and through her son finds real happiness.

Great stuff (but then again, it ALWAYS is). With the exception of a couple of spelling errors, it's a great combination of humorous story-telling and appealing artwork. Can't wait to see more. Fred Perry would be proud!

As for skin tones, I feel that it's usually better to think in terms of hue rather than shade. For example, Indians tend to have a more chocolate-brown hue while Native Americans are more like a tarnished copper. Don't ask me why, it's all in the genetics.
BTW: I think having a mom like her would be an absolute hoot... But then, this is coming from a guy who's mom is an ex-flower child who married an Airman in the US Air Force.

They both have a natural dark skin, but I wouldn't say it's black skin. It's closer to the kind of East Indian or Native American.

Thanks. That panel is one of my favorites as well. Notice him trying to pat out of the headlock, like in pro wrestling. I also like the panel with her watching porn. That little confusion he has. He can hear what's going on, but it's so foreign to him he doesn't get it.
He makes for an adorable baby. I have a comic idea where everyone keeps mistaking him for a girl.

Yeah, yeah. Ash can be rather irresponsible at times. Though, in her defense she did know to cover his eyes. I do notice that you don't mention that she's also strangling him in the sixth panel.

Well about skin color. I think it's perfect I also really like this light chocolate skin color it looks really nice. Oh I totally adore Ash's hand in the second panel you've done great work with putting colors and shades to show her thumb it looks so natural :-]
Well not much grumbling here, maybe just one little thingy, in "Politics" panel I think that a little bit of saliva dripping out of their mouths would add to sleepy atmosphere.
And I totally agree with Scary Ash in last panel her glowing eyes looks just wonderful and If you don't look closer her teeth seems to be sharp fangs. How more cool can it be.

I still think I'm going to make their skin a tad lighter. I'm going for more of a well tanned look. More native american indian rather then east indian.
In the sleeping panel they aren't really drooling. More slack jawed.
I do like hos scarey Ash came on in that last panel, and the one of the TV getting kicked through looks more powerful now.
