Description
Reverse MacroSome people have never even heard about this technique. Others know what it is, but don't know how to do it. I made this tutorial this afternoon in hopes to answer any questions.
Hope it helps!
[edit]
For maximum magnification, use your minimum focal length (i.e. 18mm, if your lens is 18-55mm). Incredible results!
You can also pick up something called a "reversin ring" to make shooting a whole lot easier! Basically a filter that screws onto the end of your lens and allows you to mount it to your camera body [link] Super cheap and it makes things much easier

Thanks!
After. To focus, you physically move the camera either closer to or farther from the subject. Typically, to get an object in focus, you have to be only centimeters away.

so wait does this make the image like a big zoom in or like a big zoom out? I know it sez reverse but then the pictures used on it are really close up so i got confused. lol.

It's like zooming in, it makes your subject seem closer/more magnified

Do you know if this works with older cameras?
I have like... a 15 year old Olympus and was curious if that would work with it

I don't know. I've only used the technique with my XSi. If the camera functions without and attached lens and the lens' optics are there, it should work

Oh, okay. I'm not sure if it'll work with mine, then... I'll have to check it out.

you just BLEW MY MIND!
i have a nikon d700
and a macro lens has always intrigued me, but they were all too expensive..
so i just tried this with my 50mm f/2 and the shots are amazing!
and the best part is, the lens quality still stays the same! AND i can still rotate the aperture!

awwwww

FramedByNature In reply to Wildens [2009-10-22 21:27:29 +0000 UTC]
Really? It should work. What were you trying to take a photo of?
The depth of field is extremely shallow, so many people give up when all they see is blur. Try opening a book or newspaper. Increase/decrease your distance from the paper until it comes into focus (probably a few inches away at most).

Wow, it was like, WOW. First I tried it with my 14-42 mm lens and I was, nah, it doesn't work, like always, it won't work with me and my camera. And then I tried it with my 40-150 mm lens, and was like 'It works, it works, omgffgfghhhfomfg!!!11!' So thank you very, very much for the tip. It so simple but so awsome

This is a really interesting idea, with spectacular results!
However, when I tried it, my (digital) camera refused to shoot with the lens removed. Any ideas about how to get around this?

FramedByNature In reply to Iced-Stars [2009-10-15 02:50:31 +0000 UTC]
I'm afraid I don't know a way around that Apparently Nikons have issues with it and can't shoot like that.

Iced-Stars In reply to FramedByNature [2009-10-15 03:21:52 +0000 UTC]
Ah well. Maybe there is a manual focus type thing that will be discovered that will offer a way around that.

DUUDEE!
Got more tricks in the bag on this one?
one thing:I've tried it with a nikon and it didn't work.I had to use a second lens in front of what i had. WHY?

Nikon seems to have a problem when it comes to this technique. I'm not sure if there's a way around it, the only rigs I've seen have involved 2 lenses

Hi Evan. I am holding the reverse macro competition that was mentioned in *Sun-Seeker s journal.
The entries are closed and I will be posting the entries and judging in the next few hours. I would like to add a link to your tutorial, if that is ok.
