Oh.My.God.This is the most amazing thing i have ever seen! and I was about to go and buy an expensive lens! It is kinda nerve racking using the lens backwards...but still, hooray!

The lens is moving while you are shooting. You can by mounts for this for as little as $8. I would recommend that.

You can change the aperture of the lens on a Canon by holding down the DOF preview button and taking off the lens at the same time.

Very nice There are reverse lens mounts you can get as well for this (I saw them on eBay) which are PERFECT because you can focus then without the hassel.

And the mounts go by the size around by the way (like 52mm or 58mm)--just in case anyone wants to know.

I think I have the same camera as you, and it's not mine, but my mom's. I would try it, but I can't mess it up! And knowing me, I will! But a very interesting technique!

i just tried this and it seems to work really quite well!
but assuming i don't drop the lens or get too much dust anywhere, might this maybe harm the camera or lens in another way? i'm a little nervous doing this regularly :/

You ROCK so much. Thank you for teaching us this. I was trying to use a magnifying glass earlier but these results are WAYYY better. If only this one ant I'm trying to photograph would quit moving!!!

as long as you have a lens and a body it kan be done
wider angle lens make more extreem macros i had myn sed to 55mm and i was just holding the lens and i got a gr8 close up
and then i set it to 28mm and it was extreem
like i meen EXTREME!!! the 0 on the light buld was bigger then the screen so i had a 12mp 0 XD
you can even get attachments for this prosess to work
i havnt got one
i just used my hand but i know they are out there

just tried this on a Canon 450D and it seems to work, just really hard to focus etc like all here have been commenting but BIG BIG thanks for the tip
Getting the Reverse Mount Macro Adapter should make things easier and cleaner too

does this work on 400d? and how tricky is it to manually fix the focus?

Oh wow.. this is awesome! Works perfectly! Well, it's a little uncomfortable but since I'm still a beginner (and poor *sob*) it's definitely a cool way to shoot awesome macros without paying so much money. THANK YOU

This works on my fully automatic point & shoot (FujiFilm Finepix A500). i use a 50mm lens from my dads old film slr, which they got for £15 on eBay
So even if you dont have a posh camera, or just want to experiment, you can try it
It is very sensitive for movement.
[link] i used your tutorial here. very impressed
