That "solar suit" idea I brainfarted out the other day was too good not to do anything with

Cool. I like the solar energy saver idea.

Thanks very much! Me and a friend of mine were kinda making fun of the new JLA designs, and he was upset that it looked like armor. And I was like "It's not armor! It's a solar suit!" I said it as a joke, but the more I thought about it the more it made sense.

This is, by far, the best one I have seen. Nice job! I don't read comics much anymore, but if they followed this design and character advice, I would read this one.

Thank you very much! Honestly, I stopped following the books. I just bought Superman: Earth One the other day, though, and it's really good. I tend to like stuff that's not bogged down in continuity. Either "Elseworlds" and "Ultimate"-type stuff, or books that operate relatively independently of other books.

Great concept. The only thing I don't like is the change in the boot design. That huge dip is a bit jarring to my eyes, but I really like everything else. What you said does make sense. Nice work.

I actually wouldn't have been opposed to keeping the classic boot design. It was mostly just important to me that there be an "m" shape, as opposed to the inverted "v" that people keep trying to put on him. Beyond that, I guess I just wanted to go over the top with some part of his costume, since I was really trying to reign it in everywhere else.

Thanks very much! I know it sounds weird, but I'm almost as happy with the layout of the page as I am with the character design

You could sale this as a commission option and I am sure people would happily pay. The character design reminds me of cartoon (superhero) which is unique and it has a very cool design element with the ability to fit a short bio and both a secret and super ID.

Well, when you do that let me know. I would like to see my character done. I've been meaning to get a commish from you.

I would probably just charge for a two-character shot, which is $45 (25 for a full figure in color, and 20 for the extra character).

Damn, has it been that long since I posted this? Here's a menu that I worked up [link] At my current pricing, it would actually be cheaper to get a character sheet than just a two person shot.

The only thing i'd say is the yellow on the outside of the cape is a little glaring. maybe a little thinner?

GavinMichelli In reply to caz-divad [2011-07-04 20:03:22 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, perhaps. I think it might look a little better if it was about the same thickness as the trim of his boot.

Hmmm, probably. I've done a bunch of redesigns, but I've never used this formant, especially with the text. I guess it depends on how everyone responds to this one

I see where you're coming from. The thing with the superhero wearing underwear idea came from Ancient Mythology tales. From the labors of Heracles, to Homer's epic poetry, to ERB's Tarzan. That's the reason why certain characters wear that kind of attire in comics.

I see where you're coming from. The thing with superheroes w/ underwear goes back to the Ancient Mythology attire. From The Labors of Heracles, to Homer's Odyssey to Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan stories. That's where the idea originated from.

The Superhero underwear things were spawned from on the forefathers of Ancient Mythology attire. From Homer's Poetry to Edgar R. Burroughs' Tarzan. That's the reason they were there to begin with. Thought I pass that tidbit around.

Y'know, that was actually something I struggled with. I almost felt like I was betraying the character by taking away his underpants...but, in the end, I thought removing that bit of red reinforced the point I was trying to make about the color palette, so I nixed 'em.

Thank you, sir. You are a patron and a saint. DC should really learn from Marvel about that. Yeah, it's a classic look.. But, nowadays.. It just looks... Yeah.

what i like about it that you kept the original guidelines of superman suite and added your tiny simple-affective touches to it and made it look cool
awesome work and thumbs up man

Thanks! I'm a die-hard Superman fan, so I wouldn't want the costume to change too much. I still wanted him to look like the character we all know and love...just slightly modified.
