Description As I promised to some of the people here, I'm releasing the first tutorial here.

This is the tutorial for how to do soft cell shading on Photoshop, based on my experience.

The version of Photoshop used in the tutorial is 6. If you use later versions, names of tools/modes and/or allocation of shortcut keys might be different.
I'm working on Windows, so if you use Mac please change these notations as: Ctrl to Command, Alt to Option.

I just hope it helps you.

Thank you so much for such amazing tutorial, this is the most interesting and detailed tutorial i have ever seen. I found it so much helpfull, it describes not just the one techique, but also some tricks/tools and how do they work. Also it gives understanding about connection between colors, shades and lights. After reading i found out a lot of new things and get to understand my previously made mistakes.
THANK YOU, AGAIN! YOU HELPED ME SO MUCH!..

Best tutorial I've seen so far. ^^
Too bad I lack the skills and the patience to do something as awesome as that.

amazing tutorial, seems like it must have taken forever!!! very good tips, though. i have issues with soft shading instead of cell shading, and will try practicing with this.

This is amazing... especially for beginner artists like myself. It's explained so well, and the technique is so good.

I just want to know one thing- I use photoshop cs2, and I don't understand what you mean by "strength". Opacity or flow? (sorry, I'm a bit confused here)

Sorry to bother you. I'm sure you've answered more than enough questions since creating this tutorial but I love it as well.

I was wondering if you have a link to the lineart for this tutorial, and if not, is there anyway you could please post it? You have no idea how much I would appreciate it.

Wow...just - wow. This was a REALLY helpful tutorial, thank you so, so much for taking the time out to make it! All those little images captured at various points during the process, adding the text, and explaining everything you did - it must have taken a long time, it must have been very tedious work.

I like how you explain some of the little Photoshop tricks and what they do without making them seem complicated; it's especially helpful if you're just learning your way around the program. Your instructions are very detailed and cover basic stuff and not-so-basic stuff, while all the while still encouraging creativity and personal experimentation.

Again, thanks so much for making and posting this.I know it will help me on my way to becoming a better artist. ^^

oh my...this is possibly exactly what I've been looking for. I have a feeling you've drawn this with a tablet...and I envy you ...I really want one.. Lineart is so terribly stressful without. BUT OMGOMGOMGOMG All of these tips and tricks will make coloring my drawings soooo much easier. It might even make lining easier! SEE WHAT YOU DID?! I can't wait to try it out, I'll definitely credit you if I upload any to deviantart! THANKS SO MUCH
