after looking at one of the comments already posted, you said you put down color very quickly so that it doesn't dry...
is that how you get it so incredibly smooth looking? I liked your tutorial, but I was still in the dark about how you made it like that...
I'm a sucker for gradually shading things, but when I tried with the copics, it did the usual marker thing to do, which is make lines all of the place ~.~ it was frustrating, didn't turn out bad, but not smooth...

so I was curious as to know if that was your only secret, coloring fast XDDD

thanks for your time
(your art is amaziiiing XD had to add that)

Wonderful tutorial, especially with the details of the hair.

I have two questions, though; what do you use to make your lineart? Pen, pencil, ect.? Your lines are so fine and fade well, like on the mouth for example, that it looks like pencil, but I couldn't be sure.

My other question is what kind of paper do you copy your lineart onto? Just normal printer paper, or drawing paper?

Omg I love you! ;_; for making the tutorial of course XD;; X3

Oh, and whilst I'm commenting for a change I want to appologise for not doing so on previous stuff. Because I know how annoying it is when people fave without commenting or comment on your userpage but not the work itself
So yeah, sorry again!

How do you avoid getting those "marker lines"? You know, how if you drag the same colour over the same place twice, it makes that spot darker even though you just want a block of flat colour?
I've tried using markers before, but I gave up because I couldn't get the colours to be smooth.
Also, do you use both tips for the skin, or just the hard one?

You say to colour on a copy of your lineart, but I have yet to manage to get a good copy of any of my lineart. How do you do it?

HYBRiDsunshIne [2006-07-23 20:37:02 +0000 UTC]

I have one question:

Do you use the blending marker at all when you color? It looks almost impossible to get the same kind of effect on the skin if you just put down the colors. o.o

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Giname In reply to HYBRiDsunshIne [2006-07-23 21:06:30 +0000 UTC]

no, I dont really like the blender marker
The trick is to aply the color down fast so that it doesent dry

HYBRiDsunshIne In reply to Giname [2006-07-23 21:19:19 +0000 UTC]

Mmmm...I see. Well unfortunately for me, I don't have copic markers (too poor for those...>>; ), but I do have Prisma markers. Would your process of coloring be similar for that brand?

Thanks, by the way. I've been thinking for a while now that markers only look good if you can use the blend tool.

Another question came up checking out the copicmarker page... (no answer on the FAQ there, either.) If they are so expensive, how long does it last until you need to refill it? In pictures. And how big are your pictures in real size? They seemed to be really small, yet the scan was making it seem like at least an A4 paper. (Now on the tutorial though I saw it's not. ) And, using airbrush, will the ink fade much quicker? It seems like a damn expensive hobby, unfortunately.

Thanks a lot for sharing! I always thought you were coloring on the computer because it looks so perfect. And now I feel stupid. ;D But I'm gonna try this some time. Thanks for having given me new motivation to try out something new (and start drawing again). Btw, what do you start drawing the motive with? Was it a pencil or some other fancy thing I don't know about? ^^

KarasuKuro [2006-07-22 19:59:24 +0000 UTC]

Ooh. <3. Perfect.

It's a shame I can't afford copics, they'd be interesting to work in...

Well, if I ever acually get around to spending a few hundred for a set of markers, I'll have to try this out.

You're an exelent artist- thanks for sharing your little secrets with us.

DeadReckoningArt [2006-07-22 19:23:09 +0000 UTC]

But you make is sound so easy...this sounds almost exactly how I do watercolouring. Maybe it's not as hard as I thought. But how do you do the markers without it getting like, streaky?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Giname In reply to DeadReckoningArt [2006-07-22 19:25:14 +0000 UTC]

The trick is to color fast ^ - ^
When you color fast it will dry without streaks.

omigosh! this is exactly what i need! thankew thankew thankeeeew~! XD *squeals* this is wonderful! *_* damn, you are AWESOME! XD thanks so much for sharing this with us ^_^. i have a few questions though. how do you blend the colors so smoothly? whenever i try to color it, the ink always seems to spread out on the paper (which really frustrates me to no end, honestly). does it have anything to do with the technique you use or the paper you use? when you say duplication of lineart, do you mean gettting another copy as in printing or photocopying a scanned picture you've done? or is it something else? i'd appreciate it if you would answer my questions. thank you! ^_^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Giname In reply to Anjeile [2006-07-22 16:41:57 +0000 UTC]

I'm glad my tutorial helped!
The way I color is really fast applying the ink in strokes so that it doesn't dry on the paper and can blend. And by making a copy of the line art I mean photocopying or printing an already scanned line art

Cosira In reply to Giname [2006-07-25 19:00:20 +0000 UTC]

But wouldn't copier paper be too thin for the ink? And how do you keep the markers from making the photocopied lines bleed and run?
