Description
[STH #234]: To avoid destabilizing the kingdom after Naugus' coup, Elias left with his family for Feral Forest. Naugus relayed the information to Eggman who sent Mecha Sally to attack them en route.[STH #241]: With a seat vacant on the Council of Acorns after Rotor resigned, Isabella Mongoose was sworn in as his replacement. Naugus' mutation flared up during her first proposal.
A lot of necessary plot exposition here required to bring readers up to speed on previous events. Since I didn't want this to degenerate into a boring video call page, I drew Amy messing around with T-Pup to add a bit of visual stimulus.
The third panel is interesting. The storyboard shows a close-up of Sonic's face, but many readers wanted Tails to get some sleep on page 14 before flying off, which never even occurred to me. Tails wasn't supposed to be on this page at all, but I decided to draw him collapsed in exhaustion after reading your comments. Coupled with page 13 , these are examples of how reader feedback does affect Sonic Retold. Many Deviants have tried to pitch me their own 'ideas' for the comic, which have nothing to do with the story. If you really want to help develop Sonic Retold, simply continue sharing your thoughts based on what you read. I take all suggestions into account and make changes accordingly. Thanks!

I doubt IDW is even aware that you're a highly critical person so I doubt that's it.
Do you need to be in America to have a job with IDW or are they more flexible than Archie and accept artists outside of the UK?

Don't know about IDW's hiring policy, and at this point I don't really care. I lost interest in joining them once I heard Ian Flynn was their main writer.

No offence but why do so many people keep acting like the Freedom Fighters are the only good characters in Sonic? I can think of several other Sonic characters who are on par with the Freedom Fighters. It's a bit fanboyish to claim "The comic's gonna suck without the FF!" don't you think? It'd be like refusing to watch a Star Wars movie because Darth Vader's not in it, it just makes the person sound very choosy and like I said, too much of a fanboy. I prefer to give IDW Sonic a chance to stand on its own instead of trying to be Archie Sonic 2 if you know what I mean.

Prolly because nobody's been able to do anything interesting with the SEGA cast since Black Knight. Ian tried to give Sonic character development in SHattered World, but it amounted to "Sonic growing into the person he always was in every other setting" and narratively was the rough equivalent of Bruce Banner learning to perfectly control the Hulk after getting a pep-talk from some random stoner.
Y'know what SEGA does with interesting characters? Either fucks them over or forgets what made them interesting. Tails? Forgot his independence after SA2. Completely dependent on Sonic by Unleashed. Terrified of something he defeated in a more powerful form by Forces. Shadow? Killed off in SA2, brought back with amnesia in Heroes, grown into a generic grumpy good guy in his own game and stayed that way since. Knuckles? Memes. Blaze? Sent back to her own universe and basically never used. Emerl? Killed. Twice. Metal Sonic? Really interesting in Heroes, mindless mute drone in every game after that.
What have we got now? Sonic being an obnoxious ass, another pair of shitty Scratch and Grounder knockoffs, six stereotypes that range from generic to borderline offensive, and "I'M NOT WEAK REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" Truly, SEGA's characters are amazing contributions to their own franchise.
The reason I wanted the Freedom Fighters back is basically that I want more SatAM/Old Archie-esque content. Those are the parts of the franchise I have nostalgia for, and, crucially, don't get regular installments without the comic keeping them alive. I want more Sonic game content, SEGA makes a new one every other year. I want good game content, well, I have the Rush games and i can always get the Dreamcast out and grab SA1 again. Wanting to see more of the characters and themes that really got me into the franchise more than the games ever could have? Literally the entire reason I put up with Ian's dogshit writing for so long. I could take him jacking off his unlikable villains if it meant seeing more of what I wanted to see.
Without them? Why bother.
So, the simplify it:
IDW Sonic without Ian, with Freedom Fighters: The best timeline.
IDW Sonic without Ian, without Freedom Fighters: Eh, okay. Might be good.
IDW Sonic with Ian, with Freedom Fighters: Welp... more of the same it is.
IDW Sonic with Ian, without Freedom Fighters: Nope, I'mma spend my time on good comics. *Rereads MTMTE for the 18th time*

I hope you're right. I have serious doubts about IDW Sonic, but I'll be glad to be proven wrong. I'll give the first few issues a fair review and if somehow Ian Flynn manages to shed his devotion to the God of Exposition and make the comic as enjoyable as classic Archie Sonic, I'll be sure to stick with it.

I'm doing the same thing myself, checking out the issues coming in April and see if they end up being good enough for me to want to continue reading. I sure hope it'll be good otherwise there really is nothing to keep my interest in Sonic anymore...

Can't speak for Glitcher, but for a lot of old fans it has less to do with the fact that "they're the only good characters" and more to do with the fact that they had twenty odd years of history and character development behind them and wiped it all out with all out with all the pomp and circumstance of a legal proceeding. No conclusion, no hope to ever find out where that story was going, and worst of all no chance to see them again. It's like if Star Wars cut out after Empire Strikes back, you never know what happens to Han, Lando, or the entire galaxy, but they do a completely unrelated story with Luke and Leia in some new place. Ok, that kind of turned into a rant...
