DONE! And I'm sure it's still Monday (somewhere in the world).
At last! Sonic Retold #2 is complete! It was a tremendous effort getting this issue done. It was much longer and more detailed than the first issue and it really pushed me to my limits.
This page in particular was done in less than two days - a personal record! I wouldn't have made it this far without all your encouragement and pledges. Offering character cameos in exchange for Patreon support was a great idea, since it gave me a little financial buffer and made this comic feel more like a community effort. I really appreciate all my readers who have stuck with me this far to make this comic worthwhile. 
So now I've earned a break! I need to catch up on reading back issues of Archie Sonic for inspiration and write more of the script. I also want to get at least half of the next issue drawn before uploading to avoid delays and make the work less stressful, so it will be a few months before Sonic Retold #3 sees the light of day. I'll post any updates on my journal, so stick around for that. Also, there's still the Off-Panel page I need to draw for this issue, but I'll work on that some time next month. Anyway, I hope you've enjoyed the comic so far! I've enabled critiques on this page if you wish to review the issue as a whole. I look forward to reading your feedback! Thanks.

Well, that's unfair for poor Geoffrey.
All in all? This was an excellent ending to Issue 2 of Sonic Retold. In fact, I loved Issue 2 more than the first Issue. I loved the artwork, the twists to the original Archie comics, which helped make everything refreshing and new again for this universe. I loved the attention to detail and fanservice, and the dialogue was perfectly written and impeccable.
Sounds like I'm gushing....well, I am. Its that good!
You should be proud of yourself, Glitcher. You've made a really great comic so far, and I can't wait for more!

Are you forgetting/unaware that King Maxamillian Acorn pledged his allegiance to Naugus while in the Zone of Silence? Or do you believe that pledge does not give Naugus the right to the throne? (If the latter, I'd like to hear your reasoning.)

Max had already fulfilled his pledge to Naugus. Remember he tried to get Max to pledge his allegiance to him again?

I had assumed the vow of allegiance was for life. And I either don't remember Naugus trying to get Max to re-pledge allegiance or I interpreted it differently than you; when was that?

he pledged to help Naugus escape from the Zone of Silence, he fulfilled that

In issue 53, King Max says that in return for his crystal body which protected him from the effects of the Zone of Silence, he had to "give fealty to Ixis for the rest of my days as his knight". He even goes so far as to say that Naugus is "the rightful ruler of Mobotropolis".
If any of that was ever rectonned, I've forgotten it.

except his contract with Naugus was broken, which is why he tried to have Max make a deal with him again

Hmm... It's true that in 241 Naugus couldn't just re-possess Max and apparently would have needed to form a new contract to do so; this does suggest the original contract was no longer in effect, but in that case it's a little strange it was never explained when and how the old contract ended. The only thing I can think of is that maybe since the original contract was fealty in return for a crystal body, when the Crown restored his original body, Naugus' side of the deal was no longer being fulfilled so the contract ended. (Either that or the Source of All had the power to void magical contracts.)
This would also suggest Naugus was lying when he told everyone (including the Council) that he was the rightful king. That wouldn't be surprising coming from Naugus, but if so I wish someone had called him out on his lie.

As harsh as that was, don't forget that Geoffrey has been a major jerk to Sonic, giving him a lot of trouble and costing him so much.
Part of me wants to sympathize with him, but I'm not about to, and the main cast won't either.
