And now the plot twist....... It was Naugus all along!
Sorry this page is a day late! I had to do more commission work, which explains the delay. Still, I completed this page in half the time it took to draw other pages with crowds involved. It just goes to show how much detail can slow you down. Just one more page to go before the end of the issue. I'll work on it much earlier so it won't be late. Stay tuned!

I never get over what Archie did to Geoffrey at the end. He was a character who saw the world in black and white, and yet he didn't hesitate to use underhanded means when they served the greater good, a gray area. But this... THIS was being force fed the character-developement-regression-pill, just for the big shocking reveal... and the rest of his appearances was the writers trying to pick up the pieces rebuild his characterization into something recognizable. At least at the end it became clear Geoffrey was just waiting for the straw that broke the camel's back to betray Nagus (which WOULD be treason since he IS King, but ironically, I doubt anyone is gonna ever bother pressing charges, since they would mean acknowledging and recognizing Nagus' reign!).

Well, just binged through all of this. I am so glad to see some continuation of the lost stories of Sonic the Hedgehog. It's all been great and I can't wait to see what comes next. ^_^

I already knew from before the reboot, but I didn't think it'd be possible to come out of his body!

Seems to me the dynamic between them has changed once more. Geoffrey was student and willing assistant, occasionally even derisive, and though he displayed some defiance (namely in refusing to hand over Vale's bones at first and later abandoning Naugus during the cave-in) he always resorted to submission because he felt there was no other option. Now that it's actually true he has no choice, I believe Geoffrey's lack of freedom will plunge him into depression or spur him into active rebellion. Either way, he knows he has nothing to lose by expressing his real sentiments, and more importantly he knows his relationship to Naugus is really slave and master. That's got to be sobering.
My first thought on seeing panel 4 was a Batman joke, but then a quote from some random game I can't recall came to mind: The best way to instill fear into your opponents is by running away, that way they never know when you'll descend from the rafters--like a bat!

Well, now Geoffrey can run lightning speed back to the kingdom, warn everyone of Naugus' wrongdoings, and charge at him in an epic battle. Can't wait for the next page!

...Assuming that the people most capable of fighting would bother to listen. He HAS betrayed Sonic and crew in the past, and fifteen minutes ago "Geoffrey" provoked Elias into a fight. He'd be lucky if they gave him the time of day, let alone help, no matter how much they all dislike Naugus. That said, he may be able to get somewhere with the Secret Freedom Fighters (minus Elias), since he did help them out earlier when Naugus tried to eliminate the counsel's influence in his decisions. Some of them might at least hear him out, but many are going to be too blinded by their emotions to see reason. And, of course, Geoffrey may not even get the chance to try to warn anyone if Naugus is careful to keep him under control.

Good points. I hate that Geoffrey has to suffer like this. He's a traitor, but after recent events, he seriously deserves a break.

Yeah. At the end of the day, he just wants what is best for the city and its people. Naugus somehow convinced him that he would be the best leader, and Geoffrey went to extreme lengths to make it happen. He may not have gotten anyone killed (to my knowledge) but he certainly betrayed everyone's trust. He chose a side, but now he's realized it was a poor choice. I still see the potential for good in him, but it's going to be a rough road to redemption in the eyes of his old friends and teammates. I feel bad for him, because I know that this isn't what he wanted for the kingdom or himself, and he just isn't in a good position to do anything about it. (Sorry for rambling)

No, it was confirmed by Ian Flynn that Hershey is still alive, but she's currently under deep cover investigating something, hell when Secret Freedom Fighters was still being set up, she was supposed to return after hearing of what happened to her husband, however instead she was replace dead with the Wolf twins

Stoked to see Geoffrey's comeback! Will he finally snap and come to realize Naugus has no interest in the people's wellbeing, only intending to instill fear in their minds? And how about the situation of Geoffrey being aware of Elias in the SFF? Did Naugus while possessing him come across this knowledge as well? o.O This comic is awesome!! ^w^

Very perceptive! You raise an interesting question: Did Naugus learn of Elias' secret identity while possessing Geoffrey?
Earlier I would have said "Yes". The previous draft of the script had Naugus revealing that his possession allowed him to share Geoffrey's memories, discovering that it was Elias who attacked him in the city pit. However, I later decided that this reveal was rather anticlimactic. The fact that Geoffrey has kept this secret from his master shows a glimmer of good within him and I don't want to waste that immediately. So the current answer is "No", Naugus doesn't know that Elias is in the SFF. If Naugus learns the truth, it should be done in more dramatic fashion.

Well, if it was me, probably blubbering incoherently in the fetal position.
But from what I recall, when Naugus took control of Geoffrey, St. John was screaming, wide eyed and appropriately freaking out. I figured once released he'd still be reeling and unnerved from the whole thing. But he's handling it well, so kudos to him.
And nice work on the page as always.
