Description

Well, look who's back! This flashback takes place before Snively's incarceration in SU #40, so he's still very much a part of the story. This page also shows in more explicit detail what I thought might be involved with Eggman's hatchet job on Mecha Sally. The song playing on the jukebox is a sonata aria from a 1893 Italian opera called Manon Lescaut . You can listen to the aria here . A featured comment to whoever translates the lyrics first.

Y'know... given how prideful and sick Eggman can be, I wouldn't be surprised if he kept her original parts as some sort of trophy. I think that could be an interesting goal for Sonic and company to have. I think you should have them try to search and fight for her original parts so she can be put back together. It could be great leverage for Eggman too, and a way for him to manipulate Sonic's and the others' emotions. What do you think? I think that's actually a cool idea and another way of raising the stakes even more. It also gives the heroes a clear goal if they can discover what Eggman did exactly and figure out a way to reverse it.

And if you put that toilet through the Deroboticizer, what would the result be?

that would be nightmare fuel indeed.

i think even if Sonic goes to outer space and and find Ceena-9009 to have her make a De-Roboticizer there's still a 85 % chance that Sally can't be saved.

Ha ha! I think that would be the most morbid quest Sonic has even been on. Instead of collecting Power Rings or Chaos Emeralds, he's collecting..... Sally's limbs?

OH like Simon Belmont collecting Dracula's bones    But perhaps Lien-Da could contribute to that quest as part of her redemption?  She's so ready to backstab Eggman since shes essentially a walking timb bomb herself.

THE-Julian-Cabrera In reply to glitcher [2019-01-08 21:59:47 +0000 UTC]

So you don't like it? =[[[. I think it would be interesting. Rules have been established. Jules was injured during the war and if he's deroboticized he'll die because of this. If we're taking your page at face value, Sally would be a disembodied head if deroboticized and immediately die. So idk. I'd say give my idea some thought. I love angry Sonic.

You have officially entered the realm of The Dark Writer. Maybe you didn't start this, but you certainly escalated it to this level, and for that you will be flamed. This alone is the best reason to me that Sally ought not have any clear memory of what happened during her time under his control.

I suppose the question to be asked is whether an ordinary robot can be deroboticized (which I don't recall ever being addressed in the series). If so, then Sally's new appendages and so on won't be a problem. They might be a little different, but still flesh and blood. On the other hand, if not... it's not clear to me at all how much of her original body was left, but that's basically all she'd have. And you'd be far more evil than I ever took you for.

There wasn’t really any indication this happened in canon; for all we know, Eggman simply welded new parts on.

From what I understood, that was the exception rather than the norm. Most of them had little to no memory of their time as robots.

Which feels like BS to me. Those trope is abused to hell and back, and is included in narratives like it's the NORM rather than NEEDING a reason.

JanikaCheetah In reply to alexwarlorn [2019-01-10 04:29:17 +0000 UTC]

You forget the comic was supposed to be a series primarily targeted at a young audience, which means there are certainly times when they went for Simple. I doubt they put as much thought into "tropes" back then as you might have personally preferred. But the boundaries and standard rules of the world do exist whether we like them or not, and it's up to Glitcher to decide how far he wants to fudge the line.

glitcher In reply to JanikaCheetah [2019-01-08 08:53:06 +0000 UTC]

"The Dark Writer".... that sounds like a great horror movie. It's ironic that you should ask if Sally can still be deroboticized when you came up with the idea of restoring her with the Sword of Acorns. Then again, maybe you hadn't envisioned that Eggman would modify her this much.

BTW, I can't wait for you to read this page to Mina. Record her reaction for me please.

JanikaCheetah In reply to glitcher [2019-01-08 12:37:34 +0000 UTC]

Hey, I know it's the writer's job to make characters suffer, but I just feel as if you take that role way too seriously.

The Sword of Acorns wasn't originally my idea, but you have to admit it's an unconventional method of recovery that can slip around any sharp corners thanks to its lack of fully-defined limits. Deroboticizers are fairly straightforward. It works or it doesn't. But since Naugus's magic cured Bunnie, that means there is necessarily hope.

Mina was looking pretty heartbroken and kept asking "Why? Why?" in the most plaintive tone. You are so cruel.

glitcher In reply to JanikaCheetah [2019-01-08 13:49:21 +0000 UTC]

Wow! I was actually kidding when I said you should show this page to Mina. I thought you would balk at the prospect of sharing something this nasty with her. So let me get this straight: It's okay for you to show a seven year old girl a page where Eggman dismembers Mecha Sally, but it's not okay to share a page where Eggman is taking a bath. I thought the latter would be less appalling.

Bunnie's original limbs were replaced with life support prosthetics to inhibit her NIDS disease, with the trade-off that she will never be deroboticized because the original roboticized limbs are no longer part of her body.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JanikaCheetah In reply to Team-Friction [2019-01-08 12:39:35 +0000 UTC]

Wait, whuh? The only person who ever had NIDS was Maria. Bunnie's body simply reached its limit and couldn't cope with the half-roboticized part of her anymore. Yes, you have a point, but that just means Glitcher will have to think outside the box.

Team-Friction In reply to JanikaCheetah [2019-01-08 16:45:46 +0000 UTC]

Both Bunnie and the alternate world of "Moebius" version of Bunnie have NIDS.

glitcher In reply to JanikaCheetah [2019-01-08 13:46:16 +0000 UTC]

I think Team-Friction is confusing Bunnie with Buns Rabbot on Moebius who also had NIDS. But instead of being roboticized, Buns was confined to a robot walker that resembles Omega.

Well spotted! This scene is actually a recreation of Silent Pain . In fact, the background in panel 4 is taken directly from that painting (edited for colour and details). I didn't mention it in the description because I wanted to see if anyone would pick up on it. You get a cookie, squire.

I can't wait to see how poor Sally will be deroboticized with her limbs torn off and trashed. It sickens me with how Eggman is treating her, also I take great thrill to see how far villains can go! You get a big round of applause for how dark and utterly despicable you portray the good doctor here!

Also, I feel Sally is fully conscious of the experiments done on her, but can't do anything about it!! D:

glitcher In reply to DiamondxBrony [2019-01-08 09:11:31 +0000 UTC]

Hooray! Someone got the reference to Professor Pyg. As a matter of fact, this scene was inspired by Pyg's appearance in Arkham Knight, hence the Italian opera and Eggman's desire to "perfect" Sally. You win +10 coolness points. Anyway, I'm glad you appreciate the scene. I was worried it would strike some readers the wrong way, but I guess I can risk brief moments of intensity like this.

I totally agree with you, LazyRayFinkle. By the way, Eggman himself told Sally about this in StH 225. I think that princess has had time to regret that she left that bastard alive!

After that it will be naive to believe that Eggman and Freedom Fighters will continue to play cat-and-mouse. Eggman's execution - is a matter of time.

I could see this pushing the FF past their normal limits, but I still don't see them as the executing type. Life imprisonment or banishment seem more like something they would do and wether those would be effective or not is debatable.

Maybe some sort of Batman Begins thing where, "I'm not going to kill you, but I don't have to save you" becomes the solution. Robo dies due to his own hubris, perhaps?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

maxim-bmx In reply to LazyRayFinkle [2019-01-09 20:20:31 +0000 UTC]

Life imprisonment or banishment seem more like something they would do and wether those would be effective or not is debatable. Here, I consider the option of imprisonment to be doubtful: 1) not everyone will even like this option (we recall Flynn’s answers to such questions); 2) Eggman - too convinced person to re-educate him so; 3) for a genius like Eggman, breaking prison locks is nothing.
The option of imprisoning Eggman in some deaf zone is more efficient and reliable, but provided that the zone is completely isolated, there will be no one who can help the doctor return, and that Eggman should be sharpened without any technical means (that logical). It will be much more reliable than a simple prison. And still there is no 100% guarantee that Eggman will not get out of there.
Robo dies due to his own hubris, perhaps? If you mean Eggman's suicide, then you will have to try hard to bring the doctor to such a state.
By the way, the option of erasing memory, as in IDW's history, is also good only if it is capital, without the possibility of recovery. But as the subsequent story showed, there is an eccentric who tries to bring back memories to Eggman.

LazyRayFinkle In reply to maxim-bmx [2019-01-10 01:53:22 +0000 UTC]

All fine points. Though the idea of Eggman, a high tech man, being placed in a low tech prison and unable to comprehend simple twigs and sticks for bars does make me chuckle. A silly off the panel gag, if nothing else.

Suicide, no, not so much. Way too dark for this franchise. More like in issue 50 where one of his creations goes out of control and he is destroyed by the very thing he was using to destroy.

I haven't had a chance to follow the IDW series, sadly. I had to move and the comic shop isn't on my usually route, so I have no idea what's going on in that world.
