Description
The image has it all. Though this is just standard and an example of stuff at least everyone would have on them. Lets be real though, they're gonna probably take more shit than that. More Rations, cans of chef boyardee, pornos, blow up dolls. . . . standard grunt level shit.Marines would be the same, but a box of crayons
Airmen would obviously pack spare caviar

How wide is the gap between the capabilities of this guy, who I'd guess is at the high end of interplanetary soldiery, and the cheapo imperial clones?Β

The Terrans like to believe one of them is worth 100 Azen clones. It's more like 1 of them is worth moreso around 5-10 of them, but better tactics than just 'throw waves at them' are usually what aid them

Hey there, I really enjoyed your attention to the extra details and features which are often over-looked in sci-fi body armour, namely the issue of how and where do the soldiers carry/store their extra ammo, supplies, gear, etc. Thus, many sci-fi titles (like Halo, Star Wars, Aliens, etc.) had classic and plausible sci-fi body armour designs but showed little to no means on how to carry/store their extra necessities (i.e. extra ammo, supplies, gear, etc.). Those details were often overlooked and/or they were shown as simple, ill-fitting pouches which often do not match the contents and roles they were supposed to carry.
Your pic above provided a more balanced and believable selection due to the MOLLE fittings at the body armour's side/hips and lower back/rear. That and the extra option of wearing a light flak MOLLE vest/rig over the hard plate armour, the water camel-back and the 2-day ruck with external MOLLE fittings.
Your other body armour designs were great designs as well for the same reasons:
I really enjoyed such extra attention to details beyond the body armour and weapons.

Thanks man! I've noticed that too where pouches just didn't seem to look right or fit ammunition types for guns at all. Halo got pretty close on some of theirs, like pistol magazine pouches and whatnot, but rarely did I see ammo pouches for the BR or assault rifle. Halo, however, inspired me the most in terms of armor design. Loved it

Thanks for replying
I'm not surprised that you drew inspiration from the Halo franchise. Halo 1-3, Halo: ODST, Halo: Reach and Halo Wars 1-2 have some of the best sci-fi body armour designs around. Their only main flaws were the absence and/or lack of proper pouches and combat rigging/harness to support where and how you carry your spare ammo and other special gear, etc.
Once again, good job on adding the MOLLE fittings at the body armour's side/hips and lower back/rear and the extra option of wearing a light flak MOLLE vest/rig. You've provided excellent future examples for me.

I like the armour configuration to the left. I prefer science fiction soldiers with a more soft body armour design. The extremely metallic "Iron Man" style that most soldiers in science fiction tend to wear looks more like a medieval knight to me than a post-modern soldier. There are probably also going to be issues with mobility and shock absorption due to the rigidity of the materials used, which was useful back when we fought our enemies with swords, but with high velocity ballistic weapons, you are gonna want to have lots of padding.

They wear a muscle suit underneath their armor. Being from one of the 4 main, more technologically advanced nations, they can afford the suits. Many other nations use exoskeletons to carry armor and gear.
As for the medieval armor, surprisingly those things were VERY mobile and easy to move around in. That's something I figured out a few months ago after some people uploaded videos demonstrating the full movement of the things. Problem was getting that armor off though. As for the one on the left, it's the same as the right, just with a MOLLE light vest on top to carry more gear around.
I'd imagine, with the increase of technology, industry, and materials, that it's still moderately easy and cheap to make armor for your soldiers. Especially in a future age of technological advancement. Not that padding isn't good. In some of my other designs there's still kevlar armor used, but it's a more 'poor nation's ' gear thing now.
Glad you liked the stuff enough to make a comment! love the feedback though

Yes, this is true, and I am very well aware that plate armour is quite mobile compared to depictions in popular media. Movies and video games completely get it wrong when they depict knights as bumbling oafs that swing their swords like baseball bats and need a crane to lift them onto their horses, but there is still a negligible difference, and that negligible difference does matter.
A lot of these tests on plate armour mobility do not take endurance into account. People get tired quickly in plate armour, and this is very obvious in tests where people have to run marathons in the armour. There is also the issue in having to articulate a suit of plate armour, and having it custom made for the individuals. Plate armour could not be mass produced as a standard issue kit. The suit has to be tailored for each individual, and this takes a lot of time, money, and resources. A suit of competently made plate armour costs thousands of euros, while a modern day military uniform and body armour only costs a few hundred euros. The only tailoring required for a modern uniform is that it is the right size. The tailoring required for a suit of plate armour involves measuring your bodily proportions, such as your waistline, shoulder length, overall height, the dimensions of your limbs. It is a complicated process.Β Raffaello Urbani, a historian popularly known as the Metatron on the internet,Β is having a suit of historically accurate plate armour being constructed for him with a fundraiser goal of 5000 EUR.
Of course, space suits today cost millions, so maybe in the future, whether rigid plates or soft body armour is used won't make that big a difference when considering that armour for space activity is going to be a thing.
