Description
"To discover our destiny!""To pursue our purpose!"
"To forge our futures!"
"Together, we'll prove ourselves Heroes! Cutie Mark Crusaders, to the rescue!"
Name(s): Scootaloo, Sweetie Belle, and Apple Bloom
Title: Cutie Mark Crusaders
Spirit Type: n/a
Weapon(s): n/a
Mecha: n/a
Bio:
Scootaloo
* A rambunctious orphan who never knew her parents, but idolizes Rainbow Dash and views her as a surrogate Big Sister. She refuses to take guff from anyone, and loves travelling through town at top speed on her motorized Scooter, pulling off wild stunts along the way.
Sweetie Belle
* Rarity's earnest and optimistic younger sister, Sweetie Belle is always eager to please and enjoys making up and singing little songs. Although somewhat clumsy and prone to snap-judgments, she is highly intelligent, often coming up with clever ideas and creative plans.
Apple Bloom
* Applejack's younger sister, Apple Bloom very much admires her family and their strong work ethic, hoping to make herself a proud part of the Family in her own special way some day. She has a good sense of humor and is very open-minded, but she also struggles with her own sense of Identity, worrying that she'll never know who she's "supposed" to be.
* All three share a fascination with the Ancient Pony legend of "Cutie Marks", crests which would appear on an Ancient Pony Spirit when it first discovered its special, unique Talent. It was through studying this legend that the three young friends first met, and decided to found the Cutie Mark Crusaders, a Club dedicated to the idea that humans could also obtain Cutie Marks once they came to truly understand what they were capable of.
* They gained a small fraction of Power from the Elements of Harmony when they secretly followed the Pony Rangers to the site of a battle and got close enough to them during their Transformation to absorb some of the energy without realizing it. Now, they have the power to transform into severely weaker versions of Pony Rangers themselves; they cannot create weapons or summon Mecha like the Pony Rangers, but they are protected against severe damage and are slightly faster and stronger than normal while transformed.
* Although the Pony Rangers worry for their safety and frequently try to keep them out of battle, the Cutie Mark Crusaders nonetheless do their best to use their powers to help the Pony Rangers, believing it will help them unlock their Cutie Marks and grow even stronger.

I'll keep that in mind, though I DID try to downplay them as muscular; only Scootaloo got much attention paid in that front because I saw her as being more fit, not only than AB and Sweetie, but most kids in general. Β Glad you like, though, and I'll keep your comments in mind for the future. ^_^ Β Thank you.

This just occurred to me, but would the CMC have a different transformation call than the main group? I'm not sure where it came from but I think the idea makes some sense.

Probably, yes. "Magical Completion" doesn't make much sense for characters who literally only have a fraction of power at their disposal. X3;

I'd suggest something like "Crusaders, Together" but that sounds more like a battle cry than a transformation call.

True, but it's a pretty AWESOME battle call, at least. 83

"Destiny Discovery" is going in the right direction. It still doesn't sound quite right.

Perhaps not, but I agree, it's quite close, and again on its own merits it's quite good. 8D

Do you have any plans for Babs Seed? Word of god is that she's going to be a recurring character.

As a matter of fact I do. But I won't say more than that. ;3

Because, in this 'verse, so is her sister: [link]
For the record, Scootaloo's also meant to be Latino here; I prefer the idea that, given the wide variety of colors and personalities on the show itself, Ponyville and Equestria in general are fairly multi-ethnic communities. ^_^

Hm. I'd consider Sweetie Belle to be pale, since she's a white pony.
But it's your drawing, so whatever you like is fine.

Officially, Applebloom blamed Twilight's love of animΓ© and her willingness to baby-sit for the CMC's new 'costumes'. Privately, she knew that Rarity should probably have not been so keen to make them.

These are awesome.
I really think you nailed all their personalities. Their civilian forms just make me smile every time I look at this, hehe, they're just so cute and full of character. And I love their determination in the team shot picture.
Wonderful, this one is totally awesome and I've fave it multiple times if I could. XD

Thank you so, so much. ^_^
I actually think making this a group shot helped in bringing their personalities out; each one kind of "fed into" the other, if that makes sense.

Sorry to hear, though I feel I ought to distinguish that this is meant to be more a combination of Ponies and Super Sentai than "Power Rangers" per se. Nonetheless, sorry you don't quite like it, but thank you for sharing your opinion. ^_^

You mention Scoots is an orphan. Is she staying in an orphanege or with a foster family or what is going on there?

Gojira007 In reply to DrewB1442 [2012-05-26 02:34:45 +0000 UTC]
Orphanage; she's not terribly interested in letting any families adopt her at the moment, either.

Something like that. Plus, she's gotten plenty comfortable at the orphanage; to her, it IS home.

Will we see people like Cheerilee and Zecora?

Gojira007 In reply to DrewB1442 [2012-05-26 21:04:05 +0000 UTC]
Zecora yes, in fact I think she's my next Update; Cheerilee, while she most likely exists in this universe, probably won't be depicted; I only have so much time, and I don't think she'd be a significant enough character in the grand scheme of things to do a piece for.

She'd really only be a fixture in CMC stories anyway, unless her class went to Twilight's library as a background detail at the beginning or ending of an episode.

Gojira007 In reply to DrewB1442 [2012-06-03 18:00:54 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, there's that too; especially here, where Ages are better defined than in-show, it's hard to see Cheerilee really showing up outside of CMC-centric stories.

DrewB1442 In reply to Gojira007 [2012-06-29 04:39:47 +0000 UTC]
Out of curiosity, what ages do you see the Mane 6 as? I figured Twilight would be the youngest, and Fluttershy and Rarity as the oldest.

Gojira007 In reply to DrewB1442 [2012-06-29 04:41:22 +0000 UTC]
Generally speaking I see it like this: Pinkie and Rainbow form the younger side, Rarity and Twilight are kind of in the middle, and Applejack and Fluttershy are on the older side. They're all around the same age range (late-'teens to early twenty's), but I don't wanna get too specific beyond that.

It is indeed, especially since the show itself plays things so vaguely in that respect.

...dangit, Goji, if you keep doing these, I'm never going to get around to Castle Midnight.
Actually, I didn't see this coming, and was utterly floored by simply the idea when you posted it (a fellow Carranger fan? The more I learn about you, the cooler you get. ^_^). Fortunately, the execution more than lives up to the concept. The civilian forms are cute and all as usual (especially Apple Bloom), but I'm going to say flat out that the hero outfits are amazing. This is not hyperbole. Much like White Racer, you've successfully crossed the sentai concept with Magical Girls (I'm actually getting huge junior Pretty Cure vibes from all this) and the capes you added work wonders for their heroic motif.
Loved it, ed it. Done!
(Really, the only nitpick I can raise is that I never bought or liked the "orphan" theory for Scootaloo--but that stems from less from its viability (it could be the case) and more weariness from seeing people use that theory for purposes of easy angst in fanfic. Completely personal.)

Well that's a bit of a Catch-22 there; I'm dying to hear your thoughts on "Castle Midnight", but this series still has a lot of entries left in it, and I DID promise Weekly Updates...maybe a little break some time soon'd be helpful? XD;
Anyway! Happy to hear this was a pleasant surprise for you, happier still to hear you too share my affinity for "Carranger"'s mad-cap sensibilities. 8D And thank you very much for your high praise to the Cutie Mark Crusaders' outfits. I fell in love with how White Racer's design seamlessly combined the Magical Girl and Sentai sensibilities ever since I first saw it years ago, and couldn't pass up the perfect opportunity to put my own spin to the concept. The fact that the group has their own usable Capes from the show itself certainly helped.
(and yeah, I'm not surprised to learn you're not crazy about the "Little Orphan Scootaloo" idea; for what it's worth, I don't think I'd apply it to the Scootaloo of the show, but within the more melodramatic context of a Sentai series, it felt appropriate. I totally get your opinion on the idea overall, though. ^_^)

It definitely makes sense in the context of a sentai series. Worry not.
(Carranger's actually my #1 favorite sentai, though a few recent ones still vie for my top spot. The likes of Dekaranger and Akibaranger come to mind... )

Me worry? Never. ;3
("Akibaranger" is just messed up, but I do love it for that. XD I think my personal favorites at the moment are "Zyuranger" ((Mostly for sentimental reasons relating to MMPR, but I do still love the show's design aesthetic and a lot of the plot-points, despite being less than perfectly realized overall, strike me as very interesting or engaging in-theory)), "Shinkenger" ((I know you're not a fan, but I absolutely adore the cohesiveness of its internal mythology, and the characters and actors are just so much fun)), and a tie between "Gekiranger" and "Magiranger" at #1; "Carranger" is also another favorite of mine, though. <3))
