Description

Depth Map
You can find a few more examples below. Each has links to their depth maps in the artist descriptions.
Another Anaglyph made with this technique - featuring a person.
Another Anaglyph made with this technique - featuring a car.
If you make any anaglyphs using this technique and submit them as deviations, feel free to share them here. I'd love to see them!
One last note, you can skip the channel mixer portions of Step 2 if you are looking to generate full-color left eye and right eye views of your scene. You can use these with programs like StereoPhotoMaker to generate stereo MPO files. These full color 3D image files can be viewed on many 3D capable devices like Nintendo 3ds and many 3D TV models.

Thanks! I hope to have a better fusion of layered images while having characters rendered in depthmap 3D. I just have to wrap my head around the way to organize those images!
Though I already have an idea or two...

My pleasure. Keep an eye out for Part 2, which will be about convergence, divergence and "Far Field" Anaglyphs, which makes the anaglyph look 'extruded' rather than 'deep.'

Thanks for this. I can't wait until I get the time to give it a go on some of my conventional artwork.
Up until now I've been using the liquify tool to distort images within the different color channels with varying levels of success. This looks like it will offer far more control.
YAY!

Yep, it's the same idea of displacing the color channels, but in a much more precise way. When you try it out, I'd love to see the results.

Just so folks know, the same principles apply in Paintshop Pro. There is a displacement effect which is similar in function. The only real difference is in the end, where instead of selecting channels on the side pane, you need to go Image/Split to RGB for both images, then Image/Combine from RGB and select the appropriate red/green/blue images to composite into the new images. Tried it and it worked great.

Thanks for the contribution. I wasn't sure at first if PSP had the means to do this technique.
You've got some great anaglyphs in your gallery too, by the way. Thanks again!

They have the means, they're just not as straight forward as PS.
Long ways back I was in a club and we used to work up dual tutorials for the same task... I could never afford PS, but I consider myself a guru in PSP.
