I know! I've been away from DA for a long time. I'm fantastic! Working on an online collage zine, working as a teacher/technical assistant at Megalo (a local printmaking studio), making lots of art and selling a little. It's all going pretty well to be honest! How have you been? Still painting evidently!

disbanded We put out a zine once it was fun and very popular.
Making lots and selling a little sounds familiar, I do teaching a bit to help make ends meat. Yeah getting into the paint on a regular basis.

Teaching is a good income supploment, and is usually pretty good fun in my experience. I'm finding it difficult to explain to people that you can't just make money off your work!

Just a great idea to compare a tree and a labyrinth! Awesome!

I love the thought of the labyrinth being the symbol for journy and the tree with the door of knowledge being at the end. Thanks.

Reminds me so much of this book series I was reading some years back. Something about the style. It's interesting.
This is my fave of the new ones... it makes me imagine

I like the idea of just starting to draw and letting it happen - then it has been dictated by something outside of the mundane...great work as usual. m'dear!

I used to do that sort of mindless drawing, it is quite popular but then I found I could do it but as something that was real. So a lot of the trees just happen, I start drawing and just let it flow.

As always I love the soft solidity of your work, not to mention the detail. I think the fact that you made the bricks light colored and the branches rising out toward us dark was brilliant. It really helps to create a sense of depth, distance and movement. Curious, though we have stairs up to the top of the tree and a door into the tree. I'm intrigued to see inside. Any possibility you might do an inside shot, from the door, or something?

Funny that question used to get asked a lot on another site, it has entered my mind almost every time I draw a new tree but oddly I can't seem to define what I want to see inside. I have always felt it is like Dr. Who's Tardis, bigger on the inside than the out, that will be fun to draw. Sometimes I feel it is like a house then others it is like a whole city or countryside, a complete new world.
Maybe the intrigue should be to ponder.
Maybe I just have to do it and see what comes up.
It seems I learn something new every time I draw one and it happens quite by accident, the picture just seems to come out of the end of the pencil and my hand just dose it's thing like some sort of mind scape.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Like a tardis, definitely...and something different inside each new door....perhaps it is better to imagine than see, for then it can be anything......

the thing is, you could do all kinds of views of the inside, a different one for each tree you draw, all different...but it's the outside of the tree that draws you, not the secretive, architectural inside

The little tiny door just makes this image for me! Too cute! And my lord, how do you keep from going insane with all that brick work?!

I can see you going in that door with some fairy wings on and a bottle of wine under your arm and an Elf under the other hehe......I left the key under the 3 brick on the right OK. Now you will have to wipe the screen again.
I am insane didn't you know
