Description Page 2 of 5 - Some things are just easier with some help.

Next Page >

This is a new snippet from my rather strange red-white-black comic project Where Red Apples Lie. This short story is 5 pages long, consider it as an excerpt from a larger story (which I've not published). I hope the layout should be clear, albeit the story is somewhat ... subtle (as are previous installments in the series). The story has a lot of double meanings and interpretations, will be interesting to hear what people make of it!

To get some context you might be interested in first reading some of my previous snippets, notably
The Unknown Girl and Silent Treatment

I like to think I'm getting more used to this style; I'm quite happy with how some of the scenes of this strange little story came out.

I tried using my new Android Tablet with Sketchbook Pro for sketching the pages. I then imported the sketches into GIMP for rescaling and recropping. Final art was painted in MyPaint and all text and speech bubbles were made in Inkscape, using GIMP for the final compososition. I might update my comic tutorial a bit since I think I've streamlined my workflow a bit here.

Oh. Not that tiny after all!

That kid, even though coming across as a potential wise-ass is still adorable, lol. And helpful!

And hey...talking machine interacting with people. Complimenting them. Interesting.

So how come she didn't know something even a child literally knows? Her expressions really go through quite a spectrum of expressions in one page.

It's one helpful little one indeed.

Why indeed didn't she know something a child literally knows? That is interesting, isn't it?

I keep having a lot of fun making her express things without actually saying anything.

Now I'm going to wonder why this is, why didn't she know? There's gotta be more to it. Maybe she's a hermit. Or a timetraveler. Or from another planet. Or has amnesia.

... Or maybe she wanted to let the child help her from the onset ...

Nu uh, that one I just don't believe. Even if she is the world's greatest actress, her initial reactions to the child's presence just seem too genuine and slightly confused and lost. Conveying that information so clearly doesn't make sense from a reader's point of view if she already knew what she was going to!

Maybe so. That's all I'll say about it for now.
