how do you make the layer you select that color?

paintbucket tool x3 if you select the shape by holding in ctrl and click the layer of the drawing it will select the whole shape, then you make a new layer and use the bucket tool to fill it. Its a lot easier than what I did here I think xD

(sorry I you don't get it) You know the layer you select on, then it turns orange. How do you do that?

It depends on what i draw, if i have lineart colors and backgrounds its usually three layers, or sometimes i paint everything on one layer if its just painted. It really depends x3 so if you find some in my gallery, you can ask about that specifically or something.
I also usually use the normal brushes, its rare that i use any customized ones
