You can also use it if the light source is hot. Hot light casts cool shadows. Reversely cool light casts hot shadows.
Light and color theory is pretty fun when you get into it.

The above tutorial is a good tipper for beginners but I think it could have given more breadcrumbs towards the basics.
There is just so much interesting, fun stuff to learn. By all means!

Well, what shade of a color should i use for shading? A vibrant red or a dimmed down one?
This is very helpful though, thank you. c:

Experimentation works too. XD
Is there any advice you can give, other than try absolutely everything you want? XD

griffsnuff In reply to skelebrity [2011-06-22 03:39:44 +0000 UTC]
xD well trying everything you want is the only way you can find what you will like. Because its diffrent for every artist and things i say and like might be something you dont like. Draw many circles color them and shade them with diffrent kinds of colors and see who you like, it doesnt take to long

HOLY TREES.
Those down lines.
YES OH MY GOSH THANK YOU <3 MUST try that sometime!
I tend to try imagining the whole... volume, deepness, and texture in my head, but I forget it rather quickly, and it doesn't occur to me when I shade.
This is like.. Just. Yes. THANKYOU

This is great! <3
It helped a lot of people out on shading, it seems, and it's very clear to understand!
Excuse me on my criticisms but it seems you have some minor typos and misspelled words in the tutorial |D
Borring = Boring
Volum = Volume
So you may want to look over it a bit?
Otherwise, good job!

useful tutorial, just one question about the shading itself-- if the light source is above and to our left of the subject, why is there shading on the bottom of its thigh? and on its foot? or is that intended to be backglow/bounce glow? XD or am i misinterpreting the light source? Sorry, just had to mention ><
Other than that, im sure this will be really useful, since I see far too many people who just shade around the edges or use just a darker version of the main color--never very interesting to look at.

griffsnuff In reply to TamberElla [2011-06-19 02:34:03 +0000 UTC]
Its bounce glow from the white floor XD I just got lazy and didnt imply that or added it over the other places. It looked so flat without any light there at all
