Description
i'll upload a bigger, full-viewable version soon as i find the photos.this is over a year old, watercolour and gold ink, maybe some shellac even, on canvas. Was shown, but not sold, at the last show i did at Tap Gallery, in Darlinghurst.
I painted this for Rhys - a friend of mine who for some bizzare reason took it to his head that i never paint anything ugly (he lives with a certain artist by the name of James Flaxman [link] , and is himself fond of drawing misshapen faces and human heads getting unzipped into halves, which may go some way to explain this claim)
my technique with shadows has gotten a bit better since then, i'd like to think.

*smiles* I kind of like those creatures myself, they make me think of axelotles for some reason...

well, they're also quite sleek, slightly slimy, and always look a bit confused....

In my mind, I see a beauty in the smoothness of the figures. In a reality for them, with the seeming lack of eyes (???), they would need to feel using their bottom stump, thus feeling the beauty of smoothness.

you know, while they may look slimy, i don't actually find them repulsive. i just can't seem to produce images without aesthetic merit....
