Description Ookay, here's one of my final art projects from this semester--and the one that seems to be the most popular by far among family & friends. I will admit that I'm pretty happy with it. The colors turned out well and I actually managed to capture a smile and positive physical interaction the way I wanted to for once, so~

In the interests of saving time I decided to dust off an old minimalist style that I used to really like drawing in, and I'm glad I did. Not only am I pretty sure that it saved my hide, I still just honestly like the way it looks. Add in these spectacular oil pastels that I've quite plainly fallen in love with, and this image was fun to work on even despite the stress!

I do have one regret with it, though, and a few things that I'm still considering touching up.

The main regret is the tail--I got it too firmly lodged in my head that the 'tips' of this dragon were that pink/yellow/gold, like the frill of the head, and let that idea overrule what my limited knowledge of color theory and composition were telling me. Which was, namely, that I should have kept all the yellows concentrated near the central figure, not brought them so far out into an unintentional secondary focal point at the tail. I think the image as a whole would look better had I made the main mass of the tail dark like the wings, and just had it fade to yellow along that fringe that goes back along the body. (There's a small secondary regret in that I didn't give myself enough space to work and the tail ended up going off the edge of the page. Whoops. >_>)

Potential finishing touches are:

1) Coloring in the person at the center, likely with a dark brown or maybe black, maybe with swirls of red or pink like there's a swirl of blue in the wing.

2) Maybe working some color into the background?

3) Going back in with a sharpie or black oil pastel to refresh some of the lineart that got buried under the pastel. Some of it you can clearly see where I went over the lines, and that'd be the main thing. But there are also some black lines in the wings that got completely lost that I might pull forward again.

Opinions are welcome!
