I've been drawing on little index cards in my spare time. Just quick little things; the point is to get me comfortable with drawing so that I can have the confidence to move back to good art supplies.While listening to music and walking on a rainy day, the image of Vinyl walking in and enjoying the rain is something I haven't really seen before. The thumbnail I did on an index card ended up looking really good, so I decided to make it into a full scale digital painting.
This is the first drawing I've really done carefully without outlines (the Fluttershy one from a few weeks back doesn't count!), and also the first real attempt I've made at careful shading. It's also my first time doing rain, which was significantly harder for me than I first expected! But a good friend told me to 'draw what you see', so references became my friend, and just a few quick tweaks resulted in what I think looks alright.
The wet effects on her face and mane are inspired heavily by *NyuuChanDiannePie 's "TwiDash in the rain", which I made a dA account 11 months ago just to favorite! If you haven't seen it before, it's a truly amazing work that you should TOTALLY take a look at!

this instantly inspired me to write a short description if what i think would be a good story.
(take a seat everypony, my definition of "short" is not at all so.)

Vinyl Scratch has a promise she once made as a joke to her lover. but as lighthearted and jokingly as she may have said it at the time, she realized during Octavia's funeral that it was, in fact, the very last promise she had made before the accident had torn them apart forever. She had to bring her newest musical creation to the world, by nothing more than hoof and magic.
basically Vinyl travels all over the world, bringing a mix of her famous dubstep, and now, a new brand of music called "Class-step" (i know it's cheesy, but come on....if anypony can pull off saying "class-step", it's Vinyl Scratch) to everypony/zebra/griffin/and even dragon, that she can reach.
Class-step being the thing her and Octavia had been working on and off with for the past few years, in between Vinyl's shows and tours.
in this story, Vinyl will no doubt make new friends, some only as temporary as her stay in whatever town she may be in when she finds those friends.
and others who share her compassion for music, and a respect for her reasons in what she is doing, who will help her and travel with her until her journey comes to an end.
(**** KEEP IN MIND "PLEASE"...that i do "not" write......i only give ideas on what i think would be good stories.****)
(also, this is just a relatively blank slate that others can work off of. i give it to anyone who reads it.)

You did an awesome job on this! I particularly love the detail you put into the rain and the iris. You don't often see iris detail in pony art beyond the simple gradient and highlights, so it is interesting to encounter it in personal styles.

Eyes are most certainly a very interesting element to look at in MLP art. As you say, a lot of artists don't put a lot of iris detail, which I think usually ends up being a good thing. As a friend who has been coaching me in drawing a bit has told me, "detail draws attention". And usually the eyes are not the thing the artist wants you to focus on xD
Obviously, that's exactly why I made a bit of extra effort to add detail here! Personally, I wish the iris had come out a bit bigger and the pupil maybe a bit smaller, but I'm certainly not unhappy with it, especially if you like it too
