Instructions:

Please avoid a manual install and use the GNOME Tweak Tool, it's much easier.

You can use the gnome-shell theme extension for easier switching of themes.

GNOME Tweak Tool

Make sure you have user-theme-extension installed. Load the GNOME Tweak Tool and go to Shell Extensions and click the "Use Theme Extension" switch. Now go to "Theme" and click the Shell Theme box and locate your theme zip. Now you can select the theme in the dropdown box. Make sure you selection the right version for the GNOME version you have, otherwise the theme will not show properly.

If you run GNOME 3.4, just extract the 3.4 version to ~/.themes

i was just thinking, if I want the "panel" corner angles (near activities and the user name) to be downward like the default black theme, do you know where i have to tweak? if possible...

Thanks

It's rather a hack to make it look like that and it has issues with the panel being translucent. Basically the default panel only looks like that because of being opaque. The downward edge overlaps the panel, so that's why they need to be opaque and not translucent.

Yes. now I'm fully using GNOME 3 I can theme the bits I missed. I was just using GNOME Shell before with GNOME 2.

There will be another update as the developers have add a few more bits in at the last minute, which haven't reached distros yet.

Seems Gnome 3 will have a lot of new stuff.

It's pretty much like GNOME 2, just more streamlined and neater. Nautilus looks much better in my view and so does the new Adwaite theme.

Oh, I've seen some mockups of a new Nautilus. Looks great!

Does this work on Fedora 15? Can't seem to get it installed

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

half-left In reply to gvansanden [2011-03-22 15:34:28 +0000 UTC]

Yes it does. Make sure you apply all the updates. When you copy the theme directory to /usr/share/gnome-shell, set the permissions because it doesn't set them right. cp -r theme /usr/share/gnome-shell/, cd /usr/share/gnome-shell, chmod 755 theme. Do this as root(su).

Thanks, got the theme installed. But I don't know how to get the icons set (unpacking them to /usr/share/icons is Ok, but I can't select them.

If you mean the icons in the screenshot then that's done manually, since it's not a GNOME icon pack, they are just png icons.

You need to install the dconf-editor then go to org>gnome>desktop>inteface>icon theme and set the icon theme name you want. You might need to restart GNOME Shell in the usual way.

Yet another very nice theme for the gnome-shell.
Did use Dark Glass [if I could get gnome-shell running that is] but now I will try this new one.
Looks GREAT!

I am sorry, but I am new to this, so I have some basic questions.
I have ubuntu 10.10 installed on my notebook, and I update it regularly. How do I know if I can use this theme in my ubuntu?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

half-left In reply to pkaranjkar [2011-03-21 02:51:32 +0000 UTC]

This theme will not work with the GNOME Shell version that comes with Ubuntu 10.10, since it's too old.

pkaranjkar In reply to half-left [2011-03-22 19:50:16 +0000 UTC]

any way that I can get around that without changing my distro? (I mean without changing ubuntu 10.10)

Not unless you're going to run GNOME Shell using jhbuild. You can go to the GNOME Shell group for more info(see the logo on the right)

Magnesus In reply to ??? [2011-03-20 16:10:07 +0000 UTC]

The menu with System Setting (don't know how it's called) is too close to the panel. There should be the same space between panel and the menu that there is between the menu and the right border of the screen.
"Date and time settings" is too close to the border of the window - but I don't know if it can be changed.
The vertical padding on the menu doesn't match the horizontal padding (in the left right corner the High contrast button has too much space above).
Apart from that it's almost perfect.

Padding is tricky, so there is not much more to say.

Yes and I made an embarrassing mistake. I really don't know how I missed that or how I released it with no panel size set.

As it happens, I didn't forget it. The developers add panel height support.

Oh, that's good. I should try it, but I'm afraid to damage my system by installing it.

half-left In reply to Alexander-GG [2011-03-20 10:47:56 +0000 UTC]

Nah, it's fine. I've been using it before alpha and the beta is in good shape. Also, if you use jhbuild to build GNOME Shell(it does all the work for you compiling the latest Git) it doesn't affect your system, as it runs along side it.

Alexander-GG In reply to half-left [2011-03-21 07:37:46 +0000 UTC]
