Description Ok then here is a tutorial for Mandelbulb 3D on how to make the "Tuber" pieces I've been doing lately. Hope you have fun and let me know if you have any trouble. Click the download link on the right to download the tutorial! It's a zipped html file so unzip it, click on the html file and have some fun!

The version linked to below is a new version. The version the tut was written with is no longer available as far as I know. So some of the interface will be slightly different. Note me if you have trouble with it.

You can get Mandelbulb 3D by following this link!www.fractalforums.com/mandelbu…

Hey, I tried following your tutorial with version 2.01 and it looks identical until the last step before colouring, then something goes wrong and it looks like this. What could it be?

I spent about a half hour trying to figure this out. As far as I can tell, you missed a step along the way. First though. Don't change the aspect ratio. If you want the image larger, then make sure the "keep aspect" box is checked before changing the size. Now I'm not positive which step you missed, but I think you missed the rotate part where you rotate the image 5 degrees. There is also an instruction that has you rotate the image 90 degrees down, make sure you do that one too.  I think if you start over, and carefully make sure you make all the changes I wrote in RED, you will breeze right through it. Let me know~

Hey again, thanks for taking time.

I didn't miss those steps but I did as you said and did it from the start again. Like I said, it looked absolutely identical up to the formula part, and so it did this time too, so the rotation was correct. This time though, I did not change resolution and such. However, when I did the formula part I did it a little different. I changed formula 2 and hit calculate. Then I changed zoom to 4,5 and hit calculate and last I changed julia to the correct values and hit calculate and this time it worked. So it seems that either it was the resolution or that I had to calculate between the steps and not do all 3 a the same time. Does that even matter? Maybe it was in an better mood after a restart?
Either way, now it works, thanks again. You're great.

I don't have a clue. I tried to duplicate the image you sent me the parameters to, and I couldn't. It's hard to believe that the aspect ratio change could make that big a difference. And it doesn't matter at all whether you hit calculate 3d in between those steps or not. Unless you were making changes in the 3d navi window instead of the main window. I didn't give instructions on how to use that because at the time, I didn't even use it yet. I mean this was 8 or more years ago.  And when you make changes in the navi window, those changes don't take effect in the main window unless you send them to the main window, and then hit calculate 3d. Well at least all is well now, and that is good.

No I didn't use the navigator. I just figured I would ask since I'm learning and didn't know if it was my fault or the program. You know, trying to get some fundamentals. But all works fine now so that's good.

Fractalpilot [2019-03-04 09:11:02 +0000 UTC]

Your work is fantastic, I am just really a noob less than 2 months using MB3D. It's the entertainment I enjoy any more. I do every rendering from scratch, and I can barely add 2+2=4, but I actually understand fractals, if a person can say that... I just can never seem to get close enough to get a good shot, so I am going back through all the TUTS, to see what I missed. If you are on THE Fractal Forums I left a comment FRACTALS:The Final Frontier user> i.AM.Ai  If you have a moment a comment their would just give Me such a boost. I do everything for free for people and never ask anyone for money especially when I see so many people just copying your, so It kinda big deal for me to ask you to read a comment in FF, but would you> TY!

Well it says Im watching it but of course Im not anyway i luv the images and I would very much like to get this but everything is out of date and the new download is not working either , I wont bore you with details ,I hope the contact will get back and tell me what to do .Fractals are new to me and I hope very much  I will be able to get them from somewhere but so far no luck at all .thanks

There's not much I can do about things being out of date, this was written 8 years ago. But you can still find many places to download the program with a bit of looking around. However, here is a link for the best version to use that has the least changes in the user interface. You may still have to look around under different tabs in each of the windows to find things, but all functions are still there if you take the time to look around a bit. www.fractalforums.com/index.ph…

Well I'm glad It helped some. At the time, there weren't many resources on MB3D for learning purposes. My knowledge back then was pretty limited, but I had hoped it would help a few people get started.

If I understand correctly, there is no "render" button the way there is with apophysis, where it let's you adjust size and depth separate from the preview, rather you have to increase the resolution for a "higher depth" render, which you would then scale down after saving, and then calculate 3D?

Because-NoReason [2016-08-04 21:49:23 +0000 UTC]

I really want to create a 3D fractal where there is an algorithm for Z = Z^2+C on the x and y -axes, but every time you move up the z-axis it changes the exponent by a minute ammount.  Can anyone help me?  I have very little programming experience, but a fair bit of determination.

PS.  I, like some others here am struggling to find the tutorial, but I will find it I expect.

Hi HalTenny, i tried to follow your tutorial, but with latest versions of Mandelbub (i am currently on 1.69 mac version) the results are completely different from the screenshots you supplied in the tutorial.

Do you have any advice to help me? thank you

It's hard to say without seeing the parameters from what you have. Send me your parameters in a note so I can see where you're at.

I know this message is over a year old SativaPhoenix , and I'm sorry I somehow missed it. To most people on Deviant Art it is quite obvious that tutorials are often made available as downloads. All you had to do is look to the right and you would have seen it rather than post a nasty message.
