Hey Luca, LTNS - what you been up to? I'm wondering that since the Reflections tab has changed, where do you find the Spec. setting which you changed to '1' there.

Hello Luca!
I found your tutorial about transparency on deviantART !/
I made this little work! I would like to reach to copy what you have achieved in the transparency of your background for my personal info!
Thank you to answer me.
Regards.

Nice tute! Forgot to fave this when you released it. BTW I tried this effect with a very busy image similar to the We R Borg images and it doesnt quite work so well... I end up with a very black image full of dots. Perhaps a complex image must be treated differently to get this effect on anything other than simple geometry? Or I did something horribly wrong.
Here is the params I was trying with:

Maybey when you get a spare moment you can see what is going wrong here, I am sure others following this tute will appreciate the knowledge. This is not an image I was planning on releasing, so feel free to do whatever you like with it. its just some fractal "stock" of mine.

The more the surface you use is smooth, the better the reflections will work.
So for a very curly/furry surface, reflections are almost useless
Keep that in mind and everything will be clear.

Yea I understand. Did you look at those params? It wasnt at all curly or furry, it was very squared and mostly flat faces, so I really expected it to work, but it doesn't unfortunatly. I think it could but I simply don't know enough about what I am doing to make it work.

dark-beam In reply to MindsEye69 [2012-02-29 23:23:17 +0000 UTC]
All sorts of unregularities affect the reflects because they are based on surface normals. It's easy to find them only when curvatire vary in a regular way (sphere plane)... or something

PS. Adding lights does kick SOME life into it, but it doesnt have that true-chrome look you have in your example... and switching a simple cloud background on and off doesnt change it much either, just so you know I have tried most the logical things.

Very nice luca... I stumbled upon the mirror effect myself by accident. It wasn't quite as total as yours because I had a very dark grey and not full black, but it was pretty close. Now my question for you is why is the sphere reflecting the background on its front side? This would imply a mirrored plane behind the camera, and one would then expect to see the ball also reflected in itself... Or am I missing something?
π: 0 β©: 1
dark-beam In reply to MindsEye69 [2012-02-16 19:02:18 +0000 UTC]
Because the background is like a sphere everywhere around of radius = infy, so a reflecting sphere projects it into its surface.
You can see a plane back-reflecting very easily, using example a box with infinite limits and going in the middle ...
Also I did a decomb_xxx formula that does nice things when used in decomb mode (reversed bubble but of finite radius)
Sorry my english suckz
π: 0 β©: 1
MindsEye69 In reply to dark-beam [2012-02-16 20:08:38 +0000 UTC]
This sounds very interesting can you perhaps explain a bit more or just paste some params about what you mean with the decomb_xxx bit? I can learn for myself what you mean from some example parameters.
And your english is great man.. especially considering that these are not really common english words and terminology that we use regarding fractals and graphics. You can be quite happy with your level of english my friend.. Its a million times better than my italian : )

π: 0 β©: 1
MindsEye69 In reply to dark-beam [2012-02-17 00:55:00 +0000 UTC]
Yea it wasn't so much the formula as the best way to use it. I am really trying to learn what it is I am doing and not just guessing all the time. Even if I can learn a little bit so I can start to make images with intention instead of just dice rolling and getting lucky.
