Description
Sometimes in silencing our demons,we make them stronger.
I made this as a non competing entry for the βVoices in my headβ contest being held by . She's having a side deal for the judges and I went for somethig a bit different than my normal stuff. The man in the picture is done in a combination of Prismacolor and Verithin pencils on a colored paper. The 'demons' are done in pencil on smooth drawing paper and outllined with a Micron 01 pen. I then scanned it and superimposed it over the man. I tweeked the middle border color by changing the hue and added the black frames in PSCS2, so I hope I have it in the right category. Hope you all like!

great title for this piece. I like the tear forming on the corner of his eye as he drinks his feelings away.

Only bums and teenagers drink from "the bag" It's like a social steriotype. It's associated with trying to hide your drinking or being ashemed or even just plain not giving a fuck.

lol, this has a certain black comedy concept to it, But also very realistic, and original. I like this piece, it's not my usual taste, but the sketch, the position of the different characters which make up the piece, the Demons, and figure of the man drinking, show a lot of line art skill which im always interested in. I also like your use of differnt mediums, compliments it's originality, gj.
Critic: The item he's drinking from, is it a bag? or a bottle.
It looks like a bag, but then why would he be drinking from a bag,...
Please enlighten me on this. tk ^ ^

It's actually both. He's drinking from a bottle that is wrapped in a brown paper bag. In the US when you buy liquor or wine, some stores will wrap it in a thin long brown bag. Over the years it's become associated with lower class people or alcoholics since these types generally will walk around drinking 'right from the bag' instead of taking it out and storing it or pouring it like other people. You see homeless people clutching these brown bag wrapped bottles in cities as they tug they're way to getting pissed. Thanks for stopping by and checkingmy work out. Cheers!

Amazing, amazing work! I can't believe the level of detail, but more importantly how well you captured the theme of voices in one's head! Great job

Ahh, I appoligize for being rude. I hadn't realised you weren't American. Did you mean the dark edges? I would call it "hard contour". I don't like to outline all of my pieces but in some I think it adds a nice stylized touch. Thanks for taking the time to stop in a check out my work.

Nope, haven't been spying on you but now I might! The long and short of it is that both my folks are alcoholics and after I moved out I joined the Air Force and became a mental health tech and worked in the substance abuse section and saw a lot of the crappy side of people. So this is just a little something about that. I haven't heard from you in a while and thought something might be up, but I'm glad you stopped to check this one out. Take care!

I like knowing what's behind a piece. For me, it's a perfect representation of how I've been trying to keep my demons at bay. I'm really glad you made this.

Nice work! I recognize the man but how did you come up with the idea for the creatures?
The framing and 'layering' make this really unique.

yup, I'm the only model around here that works for free so I exploit the hell out of myself. As for the demons, I actually started with just the portrait idea with the bottle and sketched it out. I was sitting watching hocckey one night it for whatever reason the demon idea hit me. I did some research into some old Bosch pictures and the whole Dante's Inferno thing and liked how the people seemed to just be swarming. Then I saw a drawing where the only thing that was in color was the main figure and it all clicked some how. If I tried to explain how my brain works when it;s in idea mode I'd drive people nuts! And I'm going to school to be an art teacher!!!

You know, just by reading the title of this one I could tell that I was going to love it. Your pencil work here is incredible, and the concept an excellent one. The demons around the main image are awesome. Beautifully done, man.
