Description Sometimes in silencing our demons,
we make them stronger.

I made this as a non competing entry for the β€œVoices in my head” contest being held by . She's having a side deal for the judges and I went for somethig a bit different than my normal stuff. The man in the picture is done in a combination of Prismacolor and Verithin pencils on a colored paper. The 'demons' are done in pencil on smooth drawing paper and outllined with a Micron 01 pen. I then scanned it and superimposed it over the man. I tweeked the middle border color by changing the hue and added the black frames in PSCS2, so I hope I have it in the right category. Hope you all like!

Wow...I love this. I love the concept, but the fact that you really managed to pull it off in such a professional manner is really a credit to you.

Ha! The accounts are getting Nico confused!!! Hey Nico, what part of Italy are you in? I was able to get down to the Venice area while I was living in Germany and I fell in love with everything but driving there! Italian's drive fast on the tiny roads!!!

fast! ha! for us is just average....

yeah, venice is beautiful! i'm from the middle south, tho. was born in the mountains, in campobasso, il molise. but lived all my life in naples, and that's where part of my family is from, so i consider myself fully napolitan.
come visit sometime!

If we ever get stationed over in Europe again it is high on my list of things to do. The county is just so beautiful in Italy! I heard that Naples is more lush than Venice and offers more nature oriented things to do unlike Venice which is more historical. Around Venice seemed to be real dry and brown, but I may have been there at the wrong time of year.

well Naples and Venice are definitely dofferent. Naples is sunny the whole year round, weather is milder, it has beautiful landscapes, mountains (the famous Vesuvio and the rests of the city of Pompei are on the other side of town). You have the magnificent bay of Naples and the incredibly beautiful coast of Amalfi.
On the other hand, I love venice...it's this kinda city that has something of macabre and something of magic...specially in february, during the carnival.

what is that you do? now i'm curious.

Well, I'm a stay at home dad now. I was in the Air Force from '98 to '02 and then went over to Germany with my wife (who is still in the Air Force). I worked odd jobs over there and then moved back here last June to Texas and then the serice sent us here to Florida and in two months we're heading west to Colorado and should be there for a few years. I'm actually taking care of the home and kids so my wife can finish her degree and make those big doctor dollars that we need so bad. After that I'll go back to art school to get my degree so I can get a job as an art teacher. I hope to move on to college level or open my own school later on. How 'bout you?

it's great, cos i lived in Germany too, in Osnabrueck - Niedersachsen. I imagine you were in the base in Fankfurt. I was there visiting when my sister, who's married to an american marine came to visit me and my wife there.
i am head department at a publicity agency; we create cad projects and the advertisement out of them for architects and construction companies, including in some cases, web development and we also publish two magazines publicising interior design and architectural projects.

Actually I lived about 2 hours south west of there in Bitburg near Trier. I miss the rolling green hills, the friendly people, friends I made, the food but mostly I miss how quite it was. If you live near a city here in America it's all concrete and shopping malls. There wasn't a fast food place within I don't know how many miles and everytime you went out to eat you were greeted by a smiling face and they treated you like family. Here they want you in and out as fast as possible. No time to sit and relax with a glass of wine of maybe a coffee. Plus after years over there it made me realise a lot about my culture. I'm not agreeing with hurting anyone, but I can understand why someone from another country would dislike us. It was like opening your eyes for the first time and relly seeing yourself. I saw how biased our news was and how ignorant people were. They believe everything they see on CNN and have this "if you're not American then you suck" attitude. Very defensive and stupid way to look at the world. Most Americans never leave America yet hey claim to dislike people from places thy have never been to. Ok...enough ranting. I geuss most of Europe is that way, you know nice and laid back. The people have lived for thousands of years surrounded by other countries and other cultures. A lot more tolerant, though it took a lot of learning the hard way to get there I suppose. Take care Nico and have a glass of that amazing Italian wine I love so much!

wow, man. i want to be your friend!
you have no idea who much i understand what you mean. my sister, on the contrary, moved to live in america when she met her husband 16 years ago, and changed her mentallity the other way round. we didn't speak for two years and now we barely speak...cos she's been totally brainwashed so since i didn't support the war in iraq...welll you know what i mean.
i'm glad you enjoyed europe- i think we have a totally different mentality here. not that we're better, we're just different. i have very dear american friends tho, and i'm glad all of them have come to realise the same you have. how media is biased and controled, how nationalism is incited.
keep up the good art and good luck with your art teaching. next time i have a gladd of wine, i'll toast for you!

After talking with you I went out and got a bottle of some good German wine and had a glass while I cooked last night. Since getting back here I switched up to the occasional beer and it was nice to chill outside with a good red while some thick steaks were on the grill. I've been up a long time so I'm signing off, but take care man and I'll talk to you later.

Pat

hee hee.....I'm glad you like it! The contests really helped to get me started so I have to thank you for suggesting them! Now I just have to get a few things wrapped up and I'll be able to break ground on the Chapel, though I can't stop thinking of it. I already have some source images for the pulpit. What do you think...minister's robes or full on bishops hat?

I have three more on the table. One's a line drawing for a collab, another is that Dead Eye Joe thing I threw together. It's too cartoony for me though and got me bored. Oh well...I'll pick it up soon I'm sure. The last is a Cinderella piece I was int he middle of when I came down with meningitis.
