Thanks! The ink drawing just needed something extra, and I just had the idea of experimenting with some charcoal shading. I kinda like the effect it gives.

I am astonished at how like an old engraving this is!Until I read the comments,I was wondering if it was an etching technique...quite amazing!!
You've really captured the expression and the musculature very well....a very believable characterisation...
I don't know the Dr.Who ep you're referencing,I'll have to check it out!!
I've just finished listening to the audiobook of S.A.Swann's 'Wolfbreed' atm[but...... I think you've put me off drawing a werewolf,I couldn't top this!!]

I think the episode was called 'Tooth and Claw' - the one with Queen Victoria in. Back when David Tennant's Doctor was still new. I have a love-hate relationship with Werewolves on screen, they seldom look very realistic but I think they're really under-represented compared to vampires and yet can be just as interesting, if not more, if well-written, so I'm excited and expecting to be disappointed every time. And I've yet to draw a werewolf I'm happy with, so please don't be put off, you are much more likely to nail it than I am! I want to see your take on it!

I really love this image, mostly because the werewolf looks so human in his/her emotions which to me are saying why are you keeping me here? What did I ever do to you? I want freedom from this cage.
The whole image itself could also be saying whose the real monster the caged werewolf or the people who have caged him/her up?
A beautifully and really meaningful illustration *favs*

I'm glad you like it. I really wanted to make the werewolf expressive, without the expression itself looking human, if that makes sense.

Inspired by werewolf-in-a-box scene from the Dr Who episode of the same name. I tried looking for pics online but couldn't find any of this scene.

They're out there, but they're like bears. They often pass for innocent rocks and hummocks of grass.
I think I need to get some sleep this month before I start talking weird...

I don't mind the rats that aren't there. It's the ones that are there that bother me.

yes but the ones you see and others don't defenately bother them untill the nice men in white coats come and take you away. This is the reason you must sleep otherwise the invisible rats know about you and find you. Gibber Gibber and all that Jazz

The secret is to pretend you don't notice them, and never tell anyone about them. But remember to leave out a saucer of milk and if anyone asks, say it's for a cat.

Because the chavs can't work out how all the buckles work?
Or possibly because they are not so practical when you need to pee.

The head is smaller than I expected and those claws really do need a manicure (wolficure???)
but the muscle form under the fur is beautifully captured without detracting from the fur texture - nice balance!

You got me - this was a doodle that got the better of me (hence the screwy proportions!)
And the trouble with being incarcerated is there's nothing to sharpen your claws on. No wonder he's snarly. Poor puppy.

About 3 hours? I did the india ink in one evening and finished it with charcoal in about an hour last night.
The ink work was very relaxing.

It probably could have benefited from me taking more time on it, like doing a proper layout sketch before I started inking impulsively. But it had been a long week and I just really needed to draw something.
