how long do you cut the wire? like how do you determine the wire you'd need for the size of the ring you need?

Best method to begin with is to use cheap copper wire to practice with and work out roughly what length you will need. You can then google (printable ring sizer) to calculate the length required once the twists are soldered together. Unfortunately this is a difficult project to take on unless you have some experience with jewelry making. Hope that helps you a little. .

oh i make all sorts of rings and chainmaile even. but i just didn't know what the formula was for it. like so many inches per size of the ring and all that. i have a ring mandrill i wasn't sure if i could just use that

Hi, you cut through the twists with a jewellers saw so that they match up when curved around to form the ring then solder together.

Where to get the wire to make this

I draw my own wire to whatever size I need, and as I am in Australia I can't really help with that. Sorry.

Would you be able to do this with 3 or 4 bands instead of 2? If so would you just alternate the wire (left, right) ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

harlewood In reply to destroyerofdreams [2013-05-03 02:13:28 +0000 UTC]

Theoretically you could add more bands and yes you would have to alternate left and right to maintain the pattern. The hard part would be matching up the twists.

Well I received the wire I ordered today, however they sent me 20gauge instead of the 16gauge I had ordered -.-' So sadly I have to wait for the replacement to get here now.

Try some copper wire first, thinner and thicker will work. If you can buy a small section of electrical wire (hardware store or scrap metal dealer) and strip out the thick solid copper its so much cheaper than silver to practice with. Don't try cutting some out of the household wiring though.

harlewood In reply to lycanthusincarnum [2012-11-22 10:30:23 +0000 UTC]

I used 1.5mm copper wire for the tutorial and sterling silver for the ring.
