Description
This was done with a tablet in photoshop with LAYERS so if you don't have access to a better program then paint then don't try THIS XD I'll try to make a paint coloring tutorial later but for now here ya go!Oh and in the zoom in of her face I used paint to fix the shine correctly it wasn't like that at first XD The end result is the way I REALLY colored it XD
In the naruto anime, there are almost NO highlights or lowlights and minimarl shines on ANYTHING.
This doesn't cover backgrounds by the way, I'll work on a tutorial some OTHER time on that ok? XD
These are the BASIC coloring points to remember! The shading, the light source are VERY important, the basic way things are DONE. Yeah.
All art and coloring (c) ME
style (c) Masashi Kishimoto
LINEART TUTORIAL!

SAY NO TO TRACING! Because it's BAD!

Haha,
people also say following a tutorial to a "T" is bad because it hinders with developing your own technique or style.
Or so says the guy who started teaching me 6 years ago (oh God... I'm getting old) and experience.

Well some people want to learn to draw like Masashi Kishimoto and if that's their passion then I say go for it. Sure it hinders people when the steal a style completely and don't develop but those people usually don't get serious. Not how I want to live, my style is more Disney/Western animation anyway but if I know HOW to draw it then I might as well teach other people. lol it's better then tracing though so I don't complain too much. I don't think your teacher knew what they were talking about because the saying does go, "good artists borrow, great artists steal." And an artist shouldn't develop a style until they know basic anatomy to draw from life then if they want a style then can go for it.
Six years is a long time, I'm starting to get old too, yikes. XD

I was more pointing out and satirizing the "don't steal" bit. Actually, he knows exactly what he's talking about. He's been working at a professional level of art (by self-help) since he was in grade 11 (after teaching himself since grade 7). He's in his mid-twenties now, and his art is still mind-blowing. I'd give you his DA, but he says something about DA being full of trolls and drama (he's not far off).
It seems like you're using a tablet, so why is your work so pixelated and/or blurry?
WAIT! Are you not saving your works as a .PNG?! Dude, did you know that .JPEG files degrade when you save them? PNGs stay as nice as when they're drawn! Try it sometime, it'll make your work look more mature (I'm not calling you immature, it's more of a... "artistic knowledge gained by practice and accidentally figuring stuff out") and clean! I used to make the same mistake (and then I got yelled at).

lol I'm more concerned about the art theiving rather than the style itself. I've already seen three deviants, all relatively close friends, just leave the site because their art is traced or stolen! It's getting ridiculous. So I figure if I show people how to draw in this style maybe they'd be less inclined to steal. At least, that's what I'm hoping~
Ah, wait, so is he a professor? I don't doubt his art is mind blowing though, I thought you meant a college professor cause that's their motto XD My teachers' are always shoving the "good artist borrow, great artists steal and make their own" down my throat almost every day DX They all seem to live by that code lol DA is pretty drama filled, which is probably why a lot of people are moving to tumblr. Same drama but harder to have arguments lol
I do use a tablet but I haven't in months lol my photoshop is crap because of some virus so I don't bother with it anymore, I've gone back to traditional stuff. I should try that! Hopefully if I ever do go back to a tablet it won't look so crappy. I don't think I'm gonna be doing anymore coloring tutorials though my computer is being such a brat.

No, not a proff, just a pro. He graduated top of his class and never went because he only learned 2 things all friggen year, one of which was that he could make his own backgrounds on Powerpoint.... so... He knows his shit.
Actually, I looked at all of your art. Never ever save things as a jpg from Photoshop!

Oh ok then, makes sense. Not everyone needs to go to college, it just helps getting a job lol I figure if I get a degree in some sort of art form then maybe I could use it in interior design or something in teh real world. Good god finding a job in this economy though ya know?
Ah, good idea. Never thought too much about it so most of it is saved on a JPEG.

Perhaps, I'm getting a teaching degree in history and English. I'm set enough for my taste. I'm Canadian, so rather than spending $30,000 per year on tuition for university, I only pay $5,000 or so. GO CANADA (and our inability to get into see a doctor in less than 8 hours unless we're dying).
Makes a big difference! I promise!

Oh much smarter, lol Art degrees aren't very helpful I've come to realize XD Lol same here, I go to community college and hopefully SOMEDAY I can go to a university but looking at the economy I don't think that's gonna be for awhile XD (lol aw that's terrible! Well at least you know you aren't dying though)
I'll have to try it Thanks!

.... yyyeeeeeeeeeaaaaaahhhhhhh, the American economy is preeettttyyy fucked. This is like the only decade in which the falling of the American economy hasn't screwed us Canadians (our bank system is stronger, I guess. I dunno, my grandfather can explain it). We have a lot of American students from just over the border at my university because of the cost. With paying $5,000, New Brunswick students (RIGHT next to the state of) Maine) the highest tuition in Canada (because we're a broke-ass province). Ontario (richest province) pays around $2,500. e__e Damn bastards. Lol~
No problemo.

Hmmmm, I'm guessing Gimp 2 is good for this. It has the tool that you can use layers.
But, awesome tutorial! I've always had trouble with Naruto coloring. '^.^

lol sorry I don't know what Gimp 2 is XD Is that a file type? Or a program? There are a lot of programs that you can use layers on though 8D Except paint which is the most popular program XD
Thank you, well this isn't the best tutorial since I didn't do the cell shading right but I'm glad you liked it 8D

LOL nooo, this wasn't done in paint XD I wish I could do this in paint too! I think the best thing I've ever done in paint is a few of the pics I have on Addi-pink-power.
You should! Then even if people don't have the luxory of photoshop, they at least have MS Paint
