Description
Now I did this with a tablet, but you can still do the same STYLE with a pen and paper! Don't use excuses! PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!lol please excuse my terrible lines and my uneven crap XD I'm horrible at judging spaces and linear...things....
Yes this is ALL my work, I sat down and just started drawing. That's how it should be done. I'm so heavily emphasizing DRAWING and not TRACING because I notice tracing has become a disease that is sweeping the internets and ruining all art as we once knew it. NO edits, NO tracing and NO art theft. Don't be a lazy butt! PRACTICE!

I'm a little confused... Forgive me ;_;
But with the narrow shoulders thing... Whenever I try to do that, it looks weird and disproportional. Maybe I'm doing them too narrow? Your's looks good, but I can't seem to do that... Should they be the same width as the hips? Or a little smaller? Β

herhinney In reply to MistressMint [2015-12-04 01:33:09 +0000 UTC]
I stick to slightly wider than hips. It is really hard not gonna lie lol but you might be making the shoulders too narrow or the head to large for the body. I hope this helps and good luck

I don't think so, some people might point it out but I've seen plenty of similar styles done by a lot of other people with no problems but you might get the occasional 'hey that looks like kishimotos style' but I do t think you can steal a style.

eh dear looking at this then at the drawings of my characters they really aren't Kishimoto styled enough, my style is too rounded looking. My conclusion I need a lot of work on everything especially proportions, anatomy, complex poses... I'll get there eventually practice makes better because nobody is perfect afterall.
π: 0 β©: 1
herhinney In reply to hammyhammy22 [2011-05-30 18:48:12 +0000 UTC]
Oh right I should've mentioned that D8 Learning to draw in a style isn't a good idea, you need to learn real life proportions and draw from life and THEN learn Kishimoto style. If you learn how to draw proper proportions and how the body moves and works then it's easier to draw in a style. Also, learning to draw hands and feet is important, there are so many "naruto" style artists that have no idea how the body works or how hands and feet are supposed to move. Don't bother with this yet XD Practice drawing real people if you need help with proportion and anatomy because referencing Kishimoto would be a mistake D8 He's an awesome artist but his proportions and anatomy aren't always correct(which is understandable seeing as he has to draw the characters over and over again for hundreds of pages)
After you learn to draw real people the stlyle-ization comes soooo much easier XD
Keep practicing and I'm sure you'll get it

hammyhammy22 In reply to herhinney [2011-05-30 19:21:49 +0000 UTC]
I'm going to sound like a complete idiot when I ask this but how do you practice drawing real people? use photos and such?
sorry for my stupidity
π: 0 β©: 1
herhinney In reply to hammyhammy22 [2011-05-30 19:37:05 +0000 UTC]
Well if you're old enough, go to your local community college and take a figure drawing class OR there are some artist who are self taught and they use photos (like stocks on DA if you can't find a book) and draw from pictures like this:
[link]
It's easier to draw from life, but this might work too. Now measure her body, legs to arm ratio, torso to head ratio, etc~ Take into account how many heads tall she is, I'd estimate six and a half heads tall which is the usual size for people. It's all about measuring people to get proportions and keeping the proportions in mind.
Then take into consideration, gesture lines:
[link]
That'll add movement to you art. Read what this tutorial says about gesture lines and such to give life to your characters.
You could also buy a book like this: [link]
Be warned it's a lot of nudity XD
And when you're in public watch other people as they walk, without making it obvious mind you, and draw people. Observe from life or watch tv and just notice their proportions and how they move.
Practice hands and feet too, that's always what makes or breaks art XD Theres a saying that how well someone draws hands is how good of an artist the are. Just practice and you'll get better

BubblesTea [2010-06-29 16:41:33 +0000 UTC]
Nicely done tutorial!
I've always noticed I had a bit of trouble, but now I understand. xD;;
I usually draw my legs kind of longer(Because I see that if a ninja were to runa lot, then they'd have more muscle ), And I sometimes draw my eyes a little narrower...
But when you talked about the boobs and body, I felt as if myNaruto OC was a Mary-sue. But I swear I worked on her, she just has a curvier body as an adult!
Having a more 'womanly' body isn't always bad, right? ;A;
π: 0 β©: 1
herhinney In reply to BubblesTea [2010-06-30 21:58:29 +0000 UTC]
Why thank you
Well in Naruto, they generally have somewhat stumpy legs XD Not compared to REAL people, but other anime, Masashi draws their legs somewhat short and heavy which is why I like his style so much, it looks realistic, like he DIDN'T fall asleep during anatomy class and he still manages to make them anime-ish. Quite a feat I must say
lol I don't think it works like that XD but I guess it would make some sense. But if you draw longer legs as a style I don't see anything wrong with that
The eyes are what makes or breaks naruto style. The eyes are somewhat far apart(realistic actually) compared to normal anime and the eyes are usually wider. The characters with downward droped eyes(naruto and Sakura) are somewhat caucasian descent. Where the characters with narrow eyes could either be: trouble makers with sly personalities (Kiba, Kankuro and Temari)
somewhat evil looking(most villians like Zabuza)
or just asian (Sasuke, Itachi, The Uchiha's....most of the characters XD)
If you have a habit of drawing narrow eyes though I don't think that's a problem, it would just be your take on the style
If your unsure of the character being a marysue just go over the basic traits. Does she have an independent existence or personality that doesn't require another character to exist (like Bella from Twilight, she has no personality outside of being clumsy, supposedly smart and liking Edward thus making her a sue)
She still has flaws (like Sakura being super strong and powerful, but not being able to cope with her feelings and making naruto feel like crap because she can't decide what she's feeling half the time!) but flaws that actually render her useless at times or somehow she has to overcome something DIFFICULT(not like Bella from Twilight whose just clumsy....and kinda a whiny snot XD)
she ISN'T the super strongest (Sakura is strong but she also has no boobs) and she doesn't win all the time (Sakura and Ino's battle, both lost that one
)
and if she DOES have big boobs, she should be a bit bigger in other places too(like the stomach or the butt or the legs as boobs are fat and as we all know, fat never goes where we want it too XD )
BUT if your style is just bigger boobs, then that's fine too. Or if your character just has big boobs is fine! Theres nothing wrong with that D: Don't worry if the character is pretty! Just make sure she isn't perfect, she needs to have her flaws as well as her perfections
Whoa sorry for the long response XD

BubblesTea In reply to herhinney [2010-06-30 23:33:36 +0000 UTC]
Lol, no worries, I love long responses. xD
But I just find it a lot more realistic to draw women's legs longer and their pelvises shorter.
Plus as ninjas, they have to run a lot, so it will be at least a bit muscly.(Although I haven't been able to grasp how to show off muscles, yet. -3-;; )
Here's a picture of how I draw legs>>> [link]
It is just a bunch of sketches, but if you focus on the women, you can see where I place their lower bodies.
As for the eyes, I do indeed draw them more narrow and closer. Because I think drawing them farther apart is a little wierd. xD;
But that's just me.
And as for my Naruto OC, I have worked on her hard. Giving her her own unique traits, but with a body that some may dislike. She does have big bewbs, but I also make her have large hips as well. She's 19 years old. xD >>> [link]
I also have been trying to draw smaller breasts as well although I fear I still have much to work on. -3-;; >>> [link]
And I do have to agree with you, Isabella Swan is indeed a Robotic-Emo-Sue. xD
