I rlly like usin' ponyscape, it's an awesome toll for vectors!
But i got some problems with 2 strokes. I selected them both, pressed ctrl+alt+f to fill.
How i expectet there was the false fill, so i reversed it. Reversed its better now,
but there is still a problem. Is that normal?
mrmkfreak.deviantart.com/art/M…
Heres the example, the first two are what i get, the third one is
an edited version of the second one, how i want it.
It's not a stroke anymore on the third one, but I need strokes.
Thanks in advance~

Yes. It also has an object dialog. Something that Inkscape does not have.

You set the color the same way you would with a standard path in Inkscape.

lol youre right. i feel dumb. I have 1 last question, how do you move a powerstroked path/stroke around with say the select and transform tool (F1)
thanks for the prompt answer
and thanks in advance

It works the same way as a regular old stroke. ^^

Kixalin In reply to Hourglass-Vectors [2013-03-01 03:26:05 +0000 UTC]
it wont move. its ok i found out why, apprently when you apply fill stroke on the path so that you have 2 fill effects, one powerstroke and one fill between stroke, it messes it up. ok thanks a lot hourglasspony!!

Hourglass-Vectors In reply to Kixalin [2013-03-01 20:22:55 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, if you try to move the fill between and expect the powerstroke to move, you're going to have a bad time.

.....? why is it called ponyscape? and whats the main dif? can it animate?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Hourglass-Vectors In reply to matty4z [2013-01-16 17:10:30 +0000 UTC]
It's called Ponyscape because it is Inkscape with improvements created with the idea of creating ponies in mind. ^^ There are several differences between the two softwares and you can read all about them in the grouo #Ponyscape-Vectors It can not animate, howsoever that is one of the goals of the development team for the future.

I take it this feature is unavailable in regular Inkscape. What is there, if anything, in Inkscape, that isn't yet included in Ponyscape?

Hourglass-Vectors In reply to ak399 [2013-01-15 23:31:51 +0000 UTC]
There are none that the development team knows of. If Inkscape runs, Ponyscape should run.

Great!
Only other question/suggestion I could think of is perhaps rudimentary pen-tablet support. Opacity/Size/Hardness, I should think would be most useful. Inspiration from GIMP? Or would that sort of thing be too difficult/implausible?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Hourglass-Vectors In reply to ak399 [2013-01-15 23:42:15 +0000 UTC]
If I'm not mistaken you should be able to use the tablet much like a mouse with Inkscape or Ponyscape, but not really for drawing.
you can use it for drawing too, kinda... Well, as much drawing as you'll get with vectors. I've been told there is even pressure support on some tools. I don't have a tablet and I don't really know much about tablet integration.
Doing that sort of thing could be tricky because of several reasons. But I'll pass the idea along to the rest of the development team. ^^ Enjoy Ponyscape and if you have any questions about it's features the group #Ponyscape-Vectors and myself are here to help.

Alright then. DL'ed, depackaged, and installed. Won't run. I had Inkscape previously installed - is there some part of the install process I'm missing? Inkscape won't run either - it seems to have piggy-backed onto Inkscape. Perhaps modifying the install package so that it can be installed alongside Inkscape?

ak399 In reply to ak399 [2013-01-16 01:54:18 +0000 UTC]
Alright, so I uninstalled Inkscape, tried to run Ponyscape (to no avail), reloaded Inkscape and tried again (no dice) and eventually removed Ponyscape (original program worked again). Shame, I'd really like to take advantage of the Stroke Fill and Power Stroke features of Ponyscape. Would it be possible to release those functions (and presumably others) as a plugin for Inkscape? Though best-case scenario is getting a regular installation sorted.

This is really odd. Ponyscape should work perfectly. Are you running a mac or a linux system or a PC? When unzipping you need to make sure to say 'yes to all' if there are files that already exist. hummmm.

I'm running Ubuntu 12.10. I ran the file through Ubuntu Software Center, so there was no extracting going on. Was I supposed to extract it through an Archive Manager?

Hourglass-Vectors In reply to ak399 [2013-01-16 03:10:51 +0000 UTC]
the file is a .7zip so you're going to need to extract it then open the folder. once inside the folder double click 'Ponyscape.exe'.

I can pretty much access the whole innards of the application through an Archive Manager examining the .deb file. If you could point me towards where the modifications are that enable/add the new functions [Stroke Fill + Power Stroke + other stuff], I could probably figure out how to append those to my already-existent Inkscape program.

Actually, did you try downloading the deb package and install it by running "sudo dpkg -i 👍: 0 ⏩: 2
ak399 In reply to Hourglass-Vectors [2013-01-16 03:36:19 +0000 UTC]
Alright, did the whole sudo dpkg. Installed exactly the same as the first time, effectively deactivating Inkscape until removed. I'm wondering, maybe "Ponyscape" isn't registering in the applications directory. Perhaps it's pointing to a program file that doesn't exist, or has been renamed. Inconsistent dependencies? Of course, it could just be that I run Ubuntu 12.04 rather than Linux Mint.

ak399 In reply to Hourglass-Vectors [2013-01-16 03:27:11 +0000 UTC]
I would, and probably will, but that still might leave the problem that while Ponyscape is installed, Inkscape is overridden temporarily. I'll give it a shot and get back to you.

Hi ak399! The deb package was created with Linux Mint 14, so it should work on Ubuntu 12.10, but I'm not sure about 12.04. There might be some dependencies which are of a different version, so you may need to compile from source. If the deb package doesn't work for you, feel free to send me a note and I can help walk you through the build process. The majority of the steps are the same as on the Inkscape wiki, so if you wanted to give that a try if the deb package doesn't work, feel free to

Or I might just upgrade to 12.10 and save myself the hassle of compiling . I've been meaning to do so anyway. I'll try once more and run it through the terminal to check for errors. Then, if that still doesn't work, I'm gonna update to 12.10 and give it another go. If /that/ doesn't work, then I'll be back.
Probably not gonna have a definitive answer tonight though. Thanks for the input, I'll be back in touch in a day or so/however long it takes me to get around to bumping my system up to 12.10.

Hi ak399! Just wondering if you upgraded yet and were able to get the deb working Compiling on Linux is pretty easy, so if you still can't get it working after upgrading, let me know and I can help out with the compilation process!
I saw you tried it on Windows 7, glad you like the new features!! If you have any other features you'd like to see, feel free to let me know through the #Ponyscape-Vectors group. And I'm sure we can get it running for you under Linux soon!

Okay okay, celebration a bit premature.
The simultaneous Inkscape was in fact just another instance of Ponyscape. In addition, the palettes didn't seem to make the transition, but that's just a matter of copying the .gpl files into the correct folder within the system.
tl;dr - I got excited. Still things I need to check out.
P.S. Is there a changelog of things that you've done to the original program? That would help in migrating the stuff from the .dev package over into my main system without overwriting the wrong stuff.

Haha, uhm, that's quite interesting 👍: 0 ⏩: 0 You should just be able to install the .deb package using either the Ubuntu software center or with the command "sudo dpkg -i
If you still can't get everything installed correctly, let me know and I'll see what I can do about either compiling a standalone version for you or helping run you through the compilation process.

Gah! Hah-hah! BWAHAHAHAHAAA!!!
Oh this is hilarious.
Okay, so I opened the .deb file in Archive Manager and extracted it to a folder I called "deb." Then I navigated to /deb/usr/local/share/applications/ where I found a single item: a desktop configuration file labeled "Ponyscape." Right-click and select "Execute."
Lo and behold, it's up and running. Didn't even install it or anything, unless the unzipping was what installed it. Just to check, I opened regular Inkscape and that worked simultaneously. Went right to Power Stroke and played around a bit. Wonderful.
I guess I just needed to refresh my brain and approach it from another direction. Praise Celestia!
tl;dr - I got it working without upgrading. Woot!

Ran it again through the terminal. "inkscape" runs just fine, but with no Ponyscape features. the command "ponyscape" simply doesn't exist. I may update to 12.10 soonish.
