Description
The image I used for this piece, and that sparked the idea, is one of a series of photos I took several years ago of a mannequin (my Karaoke Muse, as I called her). She used to stand outside of a tavern near town, on top of a signpost that announced their karaoke nights. She was beautiful in a ghostly, melancholy way, dressed in yellow lace and taffeta, weather-torn and tattered. She had cobwebs covering her face and hair and the most forlorn expression in her glass eyes...all too real. She was stolen a couple of months after my photos were taken, so she is indeed now a ghost of the past.I always wondered, as I drove by, what she saw with those eyes. She always gave me the impression of seeng something quite beyond what lay in front of her, of looking into an inner world of her own, one of memory and longing.
So I have taken that thought and expanded upon it...an aging muse peering through the looking glass of the past at the memories of her golden and tarnished youth.

*laughing*...So far I haven't had to worry about parting with them. My cottage is slowly becoming a small museum.

I thought that 'old trim' was a length of shed snake skin. I once kept two rhombic night adders that I kept fed well enough to observe the shedding of an outgrown skin, revealing the shiny new, somehow slightly larger integument beneath. [I suppose the new skin stretches while it dries because serpents certainly grow in length and girth over time.]
The Muse is the very inspiration of the art aegiandyad.deviantart.com/gall… .

What a fascinating piece, Yvette! (and once again i find myself wondering what is 3D and 2D...!) I also loved the poetic story of your karaoke's Muse... melancholic but beautiful...

Hi Lucia.
One of the hardest things for me is managing to get a photo that shows the spatial depth. Maybe if I had proper lighting, etc. it would be better.
Truthfully though, they are meant to be looked at from different angles.
