Description
Yet another version of my obsession Ahat-Hir. I did this old school (pen on paper) which made me rather nervous when I started on the texture and shading actually. Now that it is scanned I hope to do a few versions of this image and add color and a background. There was a rough outline of what it is looking at in the original sketch that would add some scale, but I hope to add that back later. Let's just say it is really, really big!
Anyway, I am kinda fixated on colossi latelty.
OH, I forgot to add that a got a little lazy on the tail texture and I'm not completely happy with the mouth its left forearm.

ya well, I don't post new material very frequently. So that would be about right. After soccer season is over I hope a can spend a little more time on art.

^What she said. Honestly, the slight reduction in tail-definition near the tip could easily be chalked up to shading & distance, and as for the forearms...(1) did you mean 'our' left or 'your' left, and (2) upper or lower? All four strike me as well-placed to highlight said feature, and Ahat-Hir rocks the hexapod look as well as any fantasy beastie I've seen.
Random side-query: is there any special significance to the shards A-H sheds? Given prior revelations about its mind-pulping scale, those bits could handily serve as K-T event producers.

Hey geekspace, nice to hear from and thank you for the nice comments. I was talking about its upper left hand. It is basically a fist with the thumb within the fist. Not a good look in my book (and I didn't draw it very well at that).
Shards: I am not completely sure. I have a few ideas about them.
1) They could simply be pieces that brake off, but continue to orbit Ahat-Hir for a time.
2) They could be part of its extend body and under its control
3) They could swirl around it in a defensive vortex.
4) They could be launched as range weapons
5) They grow out/brake off into wing like structures that are used for high speed travel.
I guess I seem them as extensions of Ahat-Hirs body. They are pieces that are broken off and orbit it, but they are also under Ahat-hirs control. For what exact purpose I am not sure.

Ah, now I see it. Confession time: I didn't find out how to make a proper fist 'till early high school...not that I had much inclination or need to make with the beatdowns either way. Somehow I doubt anything in the D&Dverse's various & sundry planes would be nuts enough to try correcting Ahat-Hir's CQC technique.
Options 3 through 5 sound nifty; 3 would be especially useful for deterring crazy-like-a-rabid-fox types who might try, say, sneaking up to plant a space-time singularity in A-H's left auditory pit. And apocalyptic connotations aside, perhaps those fragments that strike certain worlds carry a bit of Ahat-Hir's aura with them, suffusing the surrounding ecosystem with chaotic vigor & mutation. Just a teeny-tiny reminder to uptight deities everywhere.

Haha, yes that probably would not be wise.
I don't remember when I learned how to make a proper fist, but maybe when I took Taekwondo around middle school. Never had to use my fists, but I did have to hit a bully over the head with a textbook once (he was in highschool, I was in middle school and about 2x my size so I think foreign objects were fair game).
I really like that idea, it kinda reminds of the engineers in Prometheus (the movie). However, in this particular image (if I get to finishing it) those shards that are visible would be measured in light years! Of course some smaller shard "dust" could achieve the effect we are looking for

...sooo I was still thinking too small. Where's Lawrence Fishburne with my blue pill already?
Post-elementary textbooks seem a handy alternative to anything they scan for with metal detectors these days. By the time I hit HS, my backpack was so overloaded I'm surprised a disc or two didn't slip. Luckily, that's about all the physical danger I was presented with-good to know you (obviously) made it out alive as well.

Ya, it seems every time a draw Ahat-Hir it gets bigger!
To be honest I have never been a part of, or even seen bullying, like you see in the movies/tv. This guy was really just a jerk who was picking on/teasing kids much younger and smaller than him. It did hit people or take the lunch money or anthing else. It just said and did what he wanted becuase he was giant among dwarfs. After many months I just snapped once, leaped over a few seats on the school bus and wacked him on his head with a textbook. I do want to be clear that I was no real threat to this guy, he was 4-5 years older than me and at least twice my size. I always thought it showed great restraint on his part that he didn't fight back (he would have killed me) and I had more respect for him after that. He wasn't a problem again either so he must have gotten some kind of message from that wack on the head - maybe a really did beat some sense into him?!

Every once in a blue moon I'd end up bus-seated near some bigger dude or other with a similar M.O. to the guy you describe, though never over the prolonged period you describe. It's good to know that such altercations don't always snowball into further drama & trauma for all involved.

I love to see all the time and detail you put into these. It's completely fantastic. I love the pose and textures that make it look alive, and the thicker outline really makes all that fine work pop out. This looks pretty dang amazing.

Thanks Scatha! I don't usually use a thicker outline, but I wanted to try something different. I think it came out pretty well.
FYI, I've been really digging your HTTYD series.

Thank you! I wish the shading was a little more bold and dramatic, but I didn't have the confidence to pull it off. However, now that I have it scanned I want to tryout some different techniques when I get time.

Thanks! You can request, no guarantees though. I don't have lot of time to draw, but I can typically whip out a kaiju pretty quickly.
