Yep.Β It has been in every edition of D&D since the 1983 Monster Manual 2 for AD&D first edition.Β It is typically one of, if not the toughest, monsters that isn't a deity of some type.Β People often considered it D&D's version of godzilla (though it doesn't haveΒ breathweapon so I never thing of it that way).

It differs depending on edition.Β In 1e edition it was much stronger than the strongest dragons (300 HP vs 88hp), in 4e it was about equal to the strongest dragons, in 5e is stronger than a dragon and about as strong as a lesser god
