I started sketching the main image for my King Ghidorah resurrection and realized that I will not have time to finish it in the near future. So I thought I would post some of the concept sketches that I did. The head in the upper right is most similar to the direction of the final design.I have everything ready, I just need to draw, ink and color teh mighty King. However, I am so fond of K.G. that I am having a hard time getting the drawings just they way I want it. I am working on a large sheet of paper and just getting it really messy with wild sketches and slowly bringing certain areas into greater focus. I hope I can finish it sometime in January. The final is to big to scan or I would have posted some of it.
I'll move this to scraps when I get the final posted

Interesting I like where you are going with the wings. I prefer Asian style dragon heads myself but this is a very refreshing design. Cant wait to see the finished product. btw I love your reference sheet style to your pics.

Thanks! I do feel bad about giving KG a more European dragon style, and I do like asain dragons, but I have a special place in my heart for both nasty european dragons and King Ghidorah. Thus, fo rme they are a perfect fit. I adore reference sheets, can you tell that I used to be a Dungeon Master?!

Well, the Heisei KG improvised nicely by stomping Godzilla into the ground for half a minute, but some grappling capacity aside from the jaws is really a must. That, and I wouldn't mind seeing Ghido get a bit more play out of those dual tails.

Oh, I have no doubts about that....and regarding the opposable-talon quandary, your idea sounds better anyway. At any rate, the stumpy four-toed feet on most canon Ghidorahs (save the stunted GMK version) are one of the King's less distinguished features.

Agreed, especially for a flying beast with no other talons. You would think it would want to be able claw/brab foes will flying.

For the last couple days this little preview's had me wondering what in Hades I could offer, critique-wise. Here goes nothing...
-That (western?) draconic vibe you're shooting for is quite evident in the heads & wings...and I like how the latter are shaping up. KG's canon wing design, while interesting, has always looked somewhat awkward on the ground-the ability to fold 'em up and just belt an attacker would certainly help.
I confess to mixed feelings regarding this Ghido's heads: the center sketch's muzzles/jaws are a fine mix of elegance & ruggedness, and the horns look fine as well, but for some reason I've always been hooked on the antlers sported by Ghidorah's Showa & "Return of Mothra" series incarnations.
-Regarding the other OTHER OTHER King's torso & tails, you're more/less spot-on...the former is evidence of an effective training regimen since Ghido's last film appearance, whilst the tails are long enough to promise all sorts of bashing, grappling melee misery.
-Finally, several half-baked suggestions to improve Ghidorah's feet (which are very nicely-shaped on both sketches):
*Stretch 'em out a smidgen...say, about the length of the left sketch's center head.
*Extend & curve the talons...again, just a smidgen.
*Possibly extend that fourth or fifth toe back near the first sketch's heel into an eagle-style opposable claw.
Deranged nitpicking aside, the Golden Devourer's latest incarnation should be something to see. Thanks again.

-I'm definetly going with large arms/wings. I've always thought it would be cool if KG could throw someone around.
-I had planned on doing more western dragon style horns, but now that you mention it that really isn't King Ghidorah is it!? I'll try to work in some type of hybrid horn/antler.
-I am definetly going with "buffed up" KG and I just love long tails
-I'm having trouble with the feet and legs in general. To make the legs (and feet) massive enough to take KG's weight they just look to big. But since my version of KG weighs billions of solar masses it does really matter waht looks realistic, so I am going to go with something that looks correct aesthically. That being said, the current version has feet larger than pictured here and I will see how larger talons look. However, i am not in favor of a backword pointing eagle like talon, but side "thunmb" type of opposible talon.

Hey, this is wonderful. Ghidorah looks awesome here. I really like the wings. It's a clever solution to his 'no hands' problem.

No pressure there! Just kidding, I put more pressure on myself than anyone could. It is taking a long time because I really want to get this one right. We are talking about Godzilla's Arch-nemisis here.
Well like I told TT, the final will be somewhat more dragon-like than what I've shown here. I hope you like the finished piece. Unfortunately, I will not be finished for awhile.

Wow. I'm practically drooling over the idea of a finalized version of this Ghidorah. From the sketches it seems like you've got the essence of his character down pat.
