Description
Bruce Wayne hates the Suicide Squad. He hates everything about the squad. He hates the idea of metahuman terrorists being on the battlefield. He hates Villains being portrayed as heroes. He ESPECIALLY hates the idea of villains being able to go free after enough missions.
He was ready to toss the entire program out and send the baddies back to Riker's Island, until an unexpected voice spoke up.
Plastic Man, knowing exactly how it feels to be a former baddie, speaks up and offers his role as the leader of the Suicide Squad. He says that he sees hope in the villains, knowing that with proper motivation, they could be a force for good. Wayne doesn't like it, but after Plastic Man says that he will personally draft the team, he's willing to give him a chance...but only ONE chance.
So, Plastic Man sets to work at making his own team, and after being partnered with a young inventor named Hiro (giving himself the codename Toyman), he is ready to make his team.
Giganta - Swearing that she is tired of the villain scene, Giganta says that she is ready to use her size changing ability to help the world, as she did during the final battle of the crisis.
The Shade - An immortal who has always walked the line between good and evil, Shade says that he is willing to give being a hero 'a shot'.
Effigy - A hothead with a bad attitude, he steps up as a member of the Suicide Squad to avoid a third strike that would otherwise lead him to the electric chair.
Livewire - A former Super-Man nemesis who also got a kick out of playing hero during the crisis.
Citizen Grundy - Dying during the Criris, the former Solomon Grundy was reborn with a much more keen, adventerous, and big hearted personality, wanting to right the wrongs his past self commited.
Together, they are ready to prove that no one can simply be good or evil, standing together as Bruce Wayne's "Task Force X..."
...a.k.a., Suicide Squad.

What an interesting team roster you got here. I really like your ideas and this one is one of my favorites. I especially like the idea of Plastic Man as the leader and that the theme of your idea seems to be redemption. I would be interested in seeing these characters work together and interact. I also admire you for bringing in new characters instead of relying on the usual villains like Boomerang and Deadshot. Do the villains still have bombs in their heads?

This is an awesome idea!
I've liked Plastic Man since his appearance in "JLA" and I really liked how he was portrayed in "Batman: the Brave and the Bold". Making him the new leader of Checkmate does make a lot of sense since Bruce wouldn't let Amanda Waller anywhere near a project like that under his watch. Nice idea also to have him paired up with Hiro.
However, I can't say that I like everyone on your lineup. Giganta sort of makes sense if her characterization is closer to the one in JLU than in the comics. Shade also has never been a full-blown villain, at least not one who was after world domination or obsessed with the slaughter of innocents.
I don't know Effigy enough to criticize your choice, but since he participated in the murder of J'onn J'onzz during "Final Crisis", I wouldn't have made him into a reformed villain. Likewise with Livewire, she doesn't strike me as someone who ever had scruples about her bad deeds.
Changing Grundy (in such a radical way) to make him fit the "reformed villain" role is also a bit unsavory in my opinion. I just don't like it when the characters are made OOC just to fit the story.

Another terrific idea. Who better than Eel to lead the suicide Squad. By now he's enough of a veteran to avoid being "killed" by anything. So he would survive every story and use his charm and humor to try and crack their tough exteriors. Trying to rally them to be "good guys"!

I thought the Suicide Squad was always a weird, funhouse mirror team of reformed villains, so the original reformed villain was the perfect choice to be team leader.

It is a perfect choice. I just wish DC would pull their collective heads from their asses and learn you can take characters in new fresh directions without changing their entire history.

You know.... you again have added too many of my favorites into one of your ideas. Ahhh! I love it! *giggles*
Man.. I haven't seen Effigy around in a while. Good to see you're pulling him out for a bit of shine-time.
Grundy looks so dapper there adjusting his tie gettin' ready for the group shot.
Brilliantly set up!

Thankies! Effigy was one of my favorite Ron Marz created characters, and my all time favorite Green Lantern villain. No way I could do a reboot without bringing him in.
