Description DOWNLOAD PLEASE!

Here it is everyone! I've finished the shading tutorial I promised you!
Keep in mind I'm terrible at explaining things ;3;

If you're confused about a step, don't hesitate to ask me to explain it better

I'm also quite aware that I spelled 'explanatory' wrong

Anywho, enjoy, feel free to use (you don't even need to ask c

If you use this for a picture you may credit me but you don't have to.

Have fun shading Ichi-style~! c:

What brush do you use to sketch with? And on step two, do they outlines need to be on a different layer too?

looks awesome. But one question: why set the layer on multiply? i really don't know what that does

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

RioSawada In reply to DB-Mistery [2013-08-01 12:16:13 +0000 UTC]

Multiply mode will make the color darker. While shade mode will make it more dark.

Sorry if this is a silly question and i know this picture was made ages ago but:
How to you merge and multiply layers?

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

JupiterArt In reply to ShannanJ [2013-03-16 03:08:23 +0000 UTC]

to multiply layers you go above the layer section and there will be something that says mode. use the drop down menu to find multiply as for merge you can find that under the layers tab at the top of the screen...except it does not work with what is said in step 12..i tried...so instead just lower the opacity of that layer instead of merging it. x3

When I tried to do step 12, the fur layer is still a bright white on the shading layer. It looks the same as step 11, basically. What did I do wrong..?

Click the scissor with paper icon, which is next to the Eraser on paper (Clear Layer).

This is a really good tutorial!
I'm just a bit confused about steps 11-12... I followed the instructions, but when I merge my two layers together (the shade and the white watercolour), the product is just shade with white blorbs. If you could give me some tips, that would be great

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Ichigokki In reply to PineapplesHaveFeet [2012-05-10 22:33:47 +0000 UTC]

Well, do you have the shading layer set to multiply?

Just one kinda unrelated question- how do you make a transparent background?

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Ichigokki In reply to blanketburrito [2012-02-21 01:29:48 +0000 UTC]

It depends what program you're using

and thank you! <3

blanketburrito In reply to Ichigokki [2012-02-21 01:31:45 +0000 UTC]

Sorry I forgot to mention, I mean one on SAI Or is it transparent already? I am new to SAI and I am confuzzled.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Ichigokki In reply to blanketburrito [2012-02-21 01:37:35 +0000 UTC]

I just save it as a .psd file and then open it up in Photoshop and save it there.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

blanketburrito In reply to Ichigokki [2012-02-21 01:40:35 +0000 UTC]

nevermind, but thanks! I just figured it out before i read the post :U but I saved it as a .png and a window came up saying 24 bpp or 32bpp (each pixel has opacity) and I chose the second one (=
I love your tutorial, It is definitely awesome.

FishyFeeshy In reply to Ichigokki [2012-02-11 15:57:29 +0000 UTC]

The only thing that doesn't work is the blending and # 11-12
It's because I use gimp instead of sai :L

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Ichigokki In reply to FishyFeeshy [2012-02-11 16:02:41 +0000 UTC]

ah. Does gimp have a blur tool or something?

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

FishyFeeshy In reply to Ichigokki [2012-02-11 16:05:49 +0000 UTC]

It does, but I don't know what the settings would be when blurring. (It doesn't have a lot of settings)

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Ichigokki In reply to FishyFeeshy [2012-02-11 16:48:23 +0000 UTC]

Ah. I suppose whatever settings makes it looks the most.. softish (for lack of a better word xD) will work. I honestly don't know much about gimp, but if it has a blur tool, that's about the next best thing and will work about the same. c:

You could also try a gaussian blur (if gimp even has that)

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

FishyFeeshy In reply to Ichigokki [2012-02-11 16:50:04 +0000 UTC]

Okay.

Gimp has no fancy water tools, so I can't really do the fur part.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Ichigokki In reply to FishyFeeshy [2012-02-11 16:59:03 +0000 UTC]

You could do that part with a normal brush tool, I suppose. c:

my water tool is actin funky and doesn't make little strokes im condused and the1st part on the right hand side is what throws me off and the clipping thing ;n;

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Ichigokki In reply to SpiritTheKitten [2012-02-03 22:40:17 +0000 UTC]

Clipping is easy. on the far left of your screen, above the list of layers, there should be a little checkbox labeled "clipping group" (or something similar depending on your SAI language pack)

Are you using a mouse or a tablet?
