Description Dare that journey to the farthest antipodes of your consciousness and rest awhile in its resonant, redolent space...

A hybridised disc-Julian, possessing certain qualities of the rings2-Julian style, originally created before I mastered the latter.

This receives the honour of being my first print since it served as test case for the rendering experiments necessary to finalising the process.

A stunner, no doubt. The DOF is wonderful.

Care to share on the rendering processes you mention?
And what do you view the 9000x1200 on?

Thanks! Sadly, my ideas for optimised print rendering went out the window with the advent of plugin architecture: flam3 doesn't support them as yet, so pretty much all of my (and probably most artists) new work is incompatible. The density estimation in flam3 allowed rendering at Q=500. I'd also been working with one of the flam3 developers to optimise its memory handling in order to be able to render 9000 x 12000 in a single strip. Render times would have been sub-5 hours! Now it's back to higher quality with the internal renderer and 24 hour+ renders for prints. I recently posted a tutorial on rendering optimisation generally.

As for viewing, I just use the PC as normal but at 10x screen dimension, it takes some traversing! I have some snapshots on imageshack that I can't currently reach, but I uploaded one here .

Yes I'm presently taking yr tut on board.
The degree of detail in Detail is certainly intense & I think I understand that you can view it on pc monitor but not all at once & have to move a slidebar, is that it? Would having a 24inch or larger monitor do it or is the solution elsewhere, like on a giant 8ft & larger TV screen or projector?

When I read about some of these professionals like Thomas Williams [link] I often wonder about production methods at such levels.

I am enjoying the challenge of trying to create the fx you have in No Escape with some little success, but I think I have to get sheep jumping fences somehow. I'll post result when fat lady sings. I'll have to make an emoticon for dancing in the dark! LOL.

Meanwhile thanks fr linking my blog to yrs.

The large image, at my current screen resolution, would measure about 2.25 x 3m, so that would be one mighty screen!

You mention Thomas - have you seen his Durian? That is truly wonderful I have managed a short flame animation but need to compile it properly - it's something I intend to do more of in the future. I once gave someone else a strong hint about 'No escape': as the link still exists in the thread, I shall re-post here . The other information required: all linear.

As for the blog, you're more than welcome - I was on the lookout for fractal blogs for linkage. Which reminds me - I must add some others I found.

"stern" - a very interesting word But I do see what you mean - I once encountered such a presence on a... journey I undertook into the eponymous space.

I don't know what a Julian is....but I do like this. The lighting looks like a flash fired through the hull of an alien space craft designed by MC Escher...which is to say...the rendered lighting effects are really accurate.

Mm. infinity. looks good

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IDeviant In reply to VonCrowd [2007-09-30 08:18:38 +0000 UTC]

Julian is a customisable version of Julia which is the surname of the the French mathematician who first described the sets now named after him

I certainly also saw the spacecraft (from the Alien movie!) - a different colour palette would have brought that out more. Now that's Escher and a sideways reference to Giger in the same dialogue - that has to be good

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IDeviant In reply to baba49 [2007-10-02 06:33:34 +0000 UTC]

It's slightly more complicated than that - it's actually the neighbour's brother who keeps, and works on, the vehicle there. He didn't even know he'd done it at the time then simply denied it afterwards despite having been witnessed. I briefly considered becoming an informant, but such things are best avoided
