Description <<< Part Two >>>

*Edit: ZOMG! *dies*

Thank you for the Daily Deviation `znow-white !!! What an honor to be featured!

I hope everyone has a lovely top hat very soon! Make some tophats my pretties!

It's finally finished.
I hope you enjoy it, if anything is unclear, please feel free to leave a comment, I will try to elaborate. I'm prettysure everything is clear, but I made the hat, so it might not be clear to everyone.

Here's mine! oh, and this more recent one too...

*The reason I have not put what the seam allowance values, is simply because the fabric has to fit snugly against the cardboard base. I don't want to put a set amount, and have wrinkly hats out there. Thicker fabrics will fit differently than thing ones. So, if you make the hat, sew it to make it as snug as possible to the base, and then cut off the surplus, leaving approximately 1/4" seam allowance.

**If you use this tutorial to make your own hat, please have the courtesy of putting a link back to my tutorial, and leave a comment here with a link to your deviation so that I can see your masterpiece!!

What kind of card board do you suggest? Will I be able to use poster board or will it nee to be thicker?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Idzit In reply to lrignafemina [2010-07-15 19:04:29 +0000 UTC]

You could use poster board, you'll just have to be careful with it when it's built up because it will be fragile.

lrignafemina In reply to Idzit [2010-07-15 22:04:30 +0000 UTC]

Maybe I should double it up then. Like, glue two sheets together and work with it.

Idzit In reply to lrignafemina [2010-07-16 13:07:23 +0000 UTC]

That would work well.

o.o I think i know how I'm making my tophat now. Though, its gonna be bigger...gotta accomadate some ears and whatnot. You're a life-saver. Its impossible to find just plain old tophats these days - least of all ones that are cheep enough that you don't feel guilty decorating them. <33333 Thank you. AE plans may now venture forward.

Very nice. Would you mind if I used your lolita tutorials in a Lolita fashion thread? Of course I'll make sure you're credited. D:

Here's the link to the thread in case you want to take a look first. [link]

AlbinoWHISPERER In reply to ??? [2010-02-06 01:25:58 +0000 UTC]

hi um.. did you use normal cardboard for the cylindar-ish part of the hat? im a bit confuzed on how you rounded it out so smoothly.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Idzit In reply to AlbinoWHISPERER [2010-02-06 04:43:29 +0000 UTC]

Yep, regular corrugated cardboard from a box I cut up. If you rub it against a table's edge with the lines of the cardboard perpendicular to the edge, it will round out nicely.

Sweet...Is this for the lolita costume

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Idzit In reply to mimikayuko [2010-01-25 05:35:09 +0000 UTC]

This is for whatever you want it to be. The most common construction is to go with a lolita costume, but my original was to go with a Victorian vampire costume.

With step 7 your only supposed to sew the outter circle? Like all the way around? If so, how are you supposed to fit the brim within it?

Just a question, I don't know if it's been asked yet.

What thickness cardboard did you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Idzit In reply to Isotoperuption [2009-05-15 13:23:17 +0000 UTC]

I just used corrugated cardboard. I literally cut up a cardboard box. It works well because you can smoosh it where you want to curve it upwards.
