Description So if any of you have seen Star Trek nemisis, you'll know EXACTLY what this ship is. For those of you who haven't, I'll fill you in.

This is a Scimitar class. Words really can't do her justice, so I'll just start with some specs.

Tactical analysis Mr. Worf!

52 disruptor banks
27 photon torpedo bays
Primary AND secondary shields
Romulan Designed Battlecloak
Thalaron energy weapon

In Nemisis, this thing was a mobile deathstar, but then aren't the big baddies always flying in cool toys? But NOW...
Oh NOW...
You see, last thursday, Cryptic, the makers of Star Trek Online announced the release of a third faction. This is the biggest, by far, expansion since the launch of the game, and I can't see how they wouldn't, nor shouldn't, add this ship too the game. Bigger ships have been prooven before too not necessarily be tougher, and this ship is just TOO MUCH of a money grab for cryptic too let it go too waste.

Now, I HIGHLY doubt that the game version of the ship will have THAT much power, but I can tell you what you probably WILL see:

8 weapons slots, 4 fore, 4 aft
Ability too mount cannons
Tactical Focus with a side of Science
AT LEAST a Battlecloak
And finally, most likely, since the NPC ones in the game have it, a Thalaron doomsday weapon. Or perhaps some sort of cone of fire plasma weapon, which would be preferred as we can upgrade that much more than some exotic weapon damage. THAT or a possible advanced version of the battlecloak, allowing you too fire energy weapons without decloaking.

I can't see it being fast, considering that the Enterprise-E rammed it, and it only caused a minor headache, but the original was able too easily outmaneuver the enterprise. I'm guessing a turn rate of 8 degrees a second here, meaning top end is 20 degrees, but expect HUGE inertia.

This is just a sig picture myself, I've even come up with a name for her, just beneath the ship. She's called "Midsummer Night" Romulan Republic Warbird designation. Jumping the gun, but I think it'll be released. It BETTER be released.

If they do include it, it's likely it'll have around the same stats as the Jem'Hadar dreadnought.

Well thats an interesting point. I already think the Jem'Hadar dreadnaught is both a blessing and a curse. A blessing, cause it's going too likely be the most powerful carrier ever.

A curse, cause carriers aren't really that good.

The way I see this is simple: it'll be a fleet Tor'Kaht with more hitpoints, same or more firepower, mildly slower, and has a battlecloak.
All those elements make for one mean monster, but then it's likely too have a special ability. And we all know that'll likely be Thalaron.

That said, have you EVER been hit by any NPC Thalaron beams?

I've been hit once or twice by Thalaron weapons in No Win Scenario, though my ship is usually sturdy enough to survive being one-hitted. If it's given a Thalaron generator, it'll be massively nerfed so it only does about thirty or forty percent of the damage the NPCs get, I think.

I'm not that familiar with carriers, except for watching people use them in STFs. In The Cure Found recently, someone sat off one of the Borg cubes and just launched a continual stream of plasma torpedoes and fighter ships (and didn't do all that much damage, unfortunately).

I don't want to say the word "overpowered" because I find it wildly subjective, but a ship that has the weapon loadout of an escort plus the hitpoints of a cruiser (in addition to fighter bays) is a pretty fearsome beast.

Well thats why the Tor'Kaht IS such a fearsome beast. I went up against one, and the numbers that hit me blew my mind.

Carriers don't normally do that much damage.

And if you think about it, we kind of have a Scimitar style ship in game, in the form of the Galaxy dreadnaught. However, the galaxy isn't fast enough too use dual heavies, so it kind of sits idle unless needed for niche warfare. If the Scimitar in game is even remotely faster, it'll work wonders on the battlefield. And if it doesn't, I really don't care, cause it looks beast. I'mma fly it even if it's worthless.

It goes to show that it's not really the ship, it's the player. A decent player can make anything work.

It's a shame that, essentially, cruisers and science ships are relegated to minor roles; again, a good player can make them work when it comes to dealing damage, but when everyone uses escorts, being able to absorb damage without returning it isn't a very useful trait.

I know what you mean. The majority of content is damage dealing focused. That said, a tanking cruiser can work well in STF's, even pugs, in preventing other ships form dying by drawing fire.

What annoys me is when PUG groups in Infected Space pop the nanite gens before hand, and then get mad when the group can't handle the onslaught of ships. Or in Cure, when the pop the first cube without poping all the other nanite gens, and then wonder why the Kang can't handle the inbound raptors and Neg'Vars. There's no ship that can fix that.

I was doing The Hive yesterday and there were three Science captains in it; they were the ones who kept dying, even when just fighting the cubes and spheres at the beginning.

The only STF I like as a PUG is The Cure; while most people won't bother destroying the generators first, at least they destroy the ships before they reach the Kang. Anyone that involves working tactically, however, you might as well forget about it unless you have a decent fleet/group to work with.

I know. Our fleet runs elites on a regular basis, and we'll normally crush those missions too pulp. We never loose any of our ships, and the mission is done in five minutes normally.

What fleet are you a part of?

I'm not in a fleet. I refused all the offers I got when I first started playing, and now, because of all the drama regarding people being kicked out of fleets once they reach a certain level, I'm kinda reticent about throwing my lot in.

They're not all bad. The one I'm in is called the 111th, and they're a great group of people.

I'm wondering whether to join one or start my own.

I wouldn't start your own, it takes real dedication and a huge amount of time too run a fleet. Let other people handle the second job.

I know, but at least then I wouldn't have to wonder whether I could trust the people around me or not.
