So my younger brother just finished playing "Condemned: Criminal Origins" on our XBox 360, and I've been watching him play it alot (I suck pretty bad at video games but I like to watch) and this comic is the brainchild of one of our conversations during the last few chapters.I mean, for most intents and purposes, the atmoshpere of the game is pretty damn creepy and you're supposed to take it seriously, but there's one aspect of it that's just...silly. Wherever you are, be it a library, a school (all of which covered in blood and grime), there are six possible dead, decomposing, fly-infested birds you can collect.
That's right, collect dead birds.
For no other reason that the game designers needed some other reason to give out acheivement points.
As far as we can tell you never DO anything with the birds, you just spot them, shove them in your pocket, and go on your merry way.
And that to us, was just so wonderfully silly that it merrited this sketch-turned-comic.

I don't know anything about this game...but I collect dead birds! I guess it is pretty darn weird, though.
Seriously, that IS the face I make when I see one...and if I don't have something to carry it in, I worry that someone else will take it before I get back there. I'm probably crazier for that than for having the hobby in the first place.

if not it tells you why the birds are lying everywhere but you dont collect birds in this one you use them to track downwhat is causing this (dramatic music)

i find it funny how after a gruesome battle with mannequins he seems to forget it all after findin a dead bird. anyway, i'm glad i'm not the only one who thought he was weird for having a DEAD bird collection

dude this seriously made my morning, especially since i spent the better part of the night wandering through a haunted Doll factory in Condemned 2. but oh my god you need to continue this. this was jsut awesome. it never dawned on me that you dont do anything with those creatures. I wish they brought it back now.
this was as good as a strip i saw a while ago with Sam Fisher in prison garb and a prisoner asking him about his external green tracking device and he tried telling him it was an external pacemaker (Splinter Cell: Double Agent)

i thought it was pretty serious since the birds are killed by the thing that makes the people go mad and they have to research it and stuff.

Great picture. That game is the only one that has ever made me jump really high. Try playing it on computer, at night, with all the lights off. Creepy.

Yeah, Agent Thomas' strange fixation with collecting dessicated, most likely diseased avian corpses weirded me out as well. Another, slightly less pressing concern, but one equally unusual is how they ended up in the places you find them.
I think the official line is that they succumbed to the same thing hitting Metro City's dilapidated areas.
I can't say anything remotely smart-sounding about the metal pipe collection, though.

When birds start dying in huge numbers in places like that, investigation is a must!
The monsters in the ed are what causes it in the end. They make sound waves that causes the birds to hemorrhage and die.

Hahaha, well maybe - they were supposed to be infected with whatever was making all the hobos and addicts go crazy and attack you for pretty much no reason (and crawl around on the ground like rat people), so I was kinda hoping we'd figure out what the WAS exactly. But alas, I shall have to wait until the sequel comes out to see if they ever resolve that.
